What the registration does and does not cover

• LSS Cash Loans is a registered credit provider. That is the licence needed to lend money and charge interest, and it means the National Credit Act caps what may be charged
• It is not a registered debt counsellor. The two registers are separate, and a credit provider cannot lawfully offer you debt review or debt counselling
• If someone at a cash loan office offers to put you under debt review, that is a different licence. Check the debt counsellor register before paying anyone for it
• A credit provider must do an affordability assessment before lending. Reckless lending without one is a ground for complaint

Verify the registration yourself

• Search the NCR register of registrants at ncr.org.za and use the registered credit providers list, not the debt counsellor list
• Search on the company name or on NCRCP13665. A blank result on one register does not mean a business is unregistered, only that it is not on that particular list
• A registered credit provider must show its NCR number on its paperwork. If a quote or contract has no NCRCP number, ask for it before you sign

Your rights and where to complain

• Never hand over your bank card, PIN or SASSA card as security for a loan. Keeping a card is illegal, whoever the lender is
• You are entitled to a written pre-agreement quote showing the interest rate, the initiation fee, the monthly service fee and the total you will repay
