UCount, usually written UCount Rewards, is Standard Bank rewards programme. It is run on its own site at ucount.standardbank.co.za with its own contact centre, separate from ordinary Standard Bank banking support, so a points question does not go to the bank general line.
UCount Rewards contact details
- Contact centre: 0860 82 68 68, also written 0860 826 868
- Email: [email protected]
- Also listed in the same contact block, a Cape Town landline: 021 700 8758
Operating hours
- Monday to Friday: 08h00 to 17h00
- Saturday: 08h00 to 12h00
- Closed on Sundays and public holidays
Note that the same 0860 number is the one Standard Bank publishes for reporting a lost or stolen UCount Rewards card. The card line and the rewards contact centre are the same desk, but the contact centre keeps office hours, so an urgent card report outside those hours is better made through the bank main lost-card line.
What UCount actually is
It is a paid loyalty programme rather than a free one. Membership carries a monthly fee debited from a Standard Bank personal account, and you earn a percentage back in points when you pay with a qualifying Standard Bank card. Points are spent through partner retailers and the rewards catalogue. Because it is paid, it is worth doing the arithmetic: if your monthly spend on qualifying cards is modest, the fee can exceed what you earn.
Before you phone about points
- Have the transaction date, the merchant and the amount; points post after settlement, not at the moment of purchase, so a same-day balance is not evidence of an error
- Check that the card you used is a qualifying card and that the account is up to date, since arrears suspend earning
- For a partner transaction, confirm whether the partner or UCount awards the points, because the correction has to be made by whoever missed it
Complaints
- Start with the contact centre on 0860 82 68 68 or [email protected] and ask for a reference number
- UCount publishes a formal complaints process on its own site; use it once the contact centre has had a chance
- Standard Bank is a licensed financial services provider and registered credit provider under NCRCP15, so an unresolved complaint can go to the National Financial Ombud Scheme South Africa
