Discovery Medical Contact Details
Discovery Medical is what most people call Discovery Health Medical Scheme, and the right number depends on who is calling. To join the scheme or get a quote, call 0860 000 628. Doctors’ rooms, pharmacies and other practices use 0860 44 55 66. Existing members use 0860 99 88 77, and a medical emergency goes to Discovery 911 on 0860 999 911. Discovery lists no general email address for individual members. Its website chatbot, Ask Discovery, answers questions and fetches documents at any hour, and the scheme’s 2026 benefit document tells members to save 0860 756 756 and send “Hi” on WhatsApp. When a practice calls the provider line, Discovery asks for the practice number and the patient’s details to be ready.
What this organisation provides
Two separate legal bodies sit behind the name. Discovery Health Medical Scheme, registration number 1125, is a not-for-profit medical scheme registered with the Council for Medical Schemes, and it is the scheme a member actually belongs to. Discovery Health (Pty) Ltd, registration number 1997/013480/07, is an authorised financial services provider that administers the scheme and runs its managed care. Complaints about the scheme therefore end with the Council for Medical Schemes.
The scheme’s plan ranges named on Discovery’s site are Executive, Comprehensive, Priority, Saver, Smart, Core and KeyCare. Gap cover, Flexicare, Prepaid Health and the Supplementary Illness Benefit are listed separately under “More Health Cover” rather than as scheme plans; gap cover queries can go to gapcover@discovery.co.za. Vitality is also separate, sold by Discovery Vitality (Pty) Ltd. A practice already registered on the website but locked out of the Health Professional Zone can ask for access through a form linked from Discovery’s contact page.
Address and operating information
The scheme’s 2026 documents give its office as 1 Discovery Place, Sandton, 2196, and its postal address as PO Box 784262, Sandton, 2146. Discovery’s footer also points people to its Discovery Stores for face-to-face help. The member line is closed on Sundays and public holidays, so outside those hours only Discovery 911, WhatsApp and the website chatbot are available.
Support and escalation routes

- If it stays unresolved, use the complaints and compliments form on Discovery’s “Complaints, compliments and disputes” page, choosing your role (member, adviser or healthcare professional).
- Still unhappy, write to the scheme’s Principal Officer through the online form or at principalofficer@discovery.co.za, and lodge a formal dispute if you want to challenge a final decision.
- The regulator is the Council for Medical Schemes: 0861 123 267, complaints@medicalschemes.co.za. You may go to the Council at any stage, though the scheme asks you to follow its own steps first.
Discovery’s security page warns about SMS messages claiming a Discovery Health plan is being suspended for non-payment, and about callers asking members to read out new banking details. Discovery says these are not its communications. Hang up and call the number in the table yourself.
