Discovery medical aid claims are sent by email to claims@discovery.co.za, uploaded on the website, or scanned in the Discovery Health app. A claim you already sent that now carries extra or corrected information goes to claimsadjustments@discovery.co.za instead. To ask about a claim by phone, members call 0860 99 88 77. This was read on discovery.co.za, on its How to claim page and its contact page, on 16 September 2026.

ContactDetails.co.za is an independent directory and not part of Discovery. We cannot receive, track or pay a claim, so never send claim documents to us.

Discovery does not publish a separate claims department phone number; claims queries share the member line. The member line closes on Sundays and public holidays. Claims are handled digitally, and Discovery’s How to claim page gives no postal address for them. The scheme’s general postal address in its 2026 documents is PO Box 784262, Sandton, 2146.

Discovery Health Medical Scheme is administered by Discovery Health (Pty) Ltd. Most doctors, hospitals and pharmacies send their claims straight to the scheme electronically, and if your provider does that you do not need to send a copy. When a provider bills at the Discovery Health Rate the scheme pays the provider directly. When the provider charges more than that rate, the scheme reimburses you and you settle the full account with the provider. Cash claims and claims payable to members are paid weekly.

What you need before contacting

Before you email a claim, check that it shows:

  • your name and membership number
  • the provider’s name and practice number
  • the date of service
  • consultation or procedure codes, Nappi codes and ICD-10 diagnosis codes
  • the total amount charged, plus a receipt if you already paid

Send the detailed account, not only a till slip, because Discovery needs the line items to process it. Claims must reach the scheme within four months; older ones are treated as expired and are not paid. Where a claim relates to an approved chronic condition, the ICD-10 code decides which benefit pays, so ask your doctor to include it.

Step-by-step contact process

  1. Check whether your provider already sent the claim electronically; if so, you do not need to send a copy.
  2. Email the detailed account to claims@discovery.co.za, or upload it on discovery.co.za or scan it in the Discovery Health app.
  3. If a claim you already sent needs extra or corrected information, send it to claimsadjustments@discovery.co.za instead.
  4. Log in to track it: the medical claims page lets you search for a claim, open a claims statement or download a claims transaction history.
  5. To change the bank account that claim refunds are paid into, log in on discovery.co.za and confirm the change with the one-time PIN Discovery sends to the cellphone number or email address on record.

Escalation route

  1. Call 0860 99 88 77 with the claim date, provider and amount, and ask why it was paid at that level or declined.
  2. If the answer does not resolve it, complete the online complaints form on the Complaints, compliments and disputes page and pick the “Claims” category.
  3. Escalate to the Principal Officer (principalofficer@discovery.co.za), then lodge a formal dispute against a final decision if needed.
  4. A claims decision the scheme will not change can be taken to the Council for Medical Schemes Complaints Unit on 0861 123 267 or complaints@medicalschemes.co.za.

Discovery has warned members about an email claiming they qualify for a medical aid refund and linking to a form. Discovery says the link may lead to a fake website built to steal personal or banking information, and that any link it sends goes to its official website or trusted partners.
