PEP Funeral Cover Contact Details
PEP funeral cover is the Abacus Funeral Plan, underwritten by Abacus Life Limited, so claims and policy changes go to Abacus rather than to PEP’s customer care line. To register a funeral claim, call Abacus on 031 570 7631 or its toll-free line 0800 777 444, or email claims@abacus-insurance.co.za. We read pepstores.com, abacus-insurance.co.za and the Abacus Funeral Plan brochure on 16 September 2026.
ContactDetails.co.za is an independent directory. We are not PEP or Abacus, and we cannot look up a policy, change a beneficiary or follow up a claim.

Abacus publishes more than one number for the same job. Its funeral plan page names 031 570 7631 and 0800 777 444 for claims and 087 821 8222 for policy changes, while the site’s contact block lists 0800 777 444 and 087 654 8222. The printed brochure also gives two mailboxes on the iua.co.za domain, lifestylequery@iua.co.za and funeralclaims@iua.co.za; iua.co.za belongs to IUA, a business process outsourcing company, not to Abacus. The toll-free 0800 777 444 appears on every Abacus web page we read, so it is the safest first call.
Abacus is at Block 11A, Woodlands Office Park, 20 Woodlands Drive, Woodmead, Johannesburg, 2191, and its phone lines run Monday to Friday, 08h00 to 17h00. Abacus Life Limited is registration number 2007/032597/06 and FSP 47062. PEP’s postal address is PO Box 6376, Parow East, 7501.
Product or service support
Abacus is Pepkor’s insurance business, and the funeral plan is sold at PEP and other group stores. It comes in three versions, each with R15 000, R25 000 or R35 000 of cover for the policyholder:
| Plan | Who is covered | Monthly premium |
|---|---|---|
| Individual | Policyholder only | R60, R80 or R100 |
| Single Parent | Policyholder and up to 5 children | R60, R90 or R110 |
| Family | Policyholder, one spouse and up to 5 children | R85, R120 or R150 |
Children’s cover depends on age, from R1 250 to R3 750 for a baby under a year up to R10 000 to R30 000 for a child aged 14 to 25. Every plan adds an accidental death benefit for the policyholder at no extra premium, and a monthly provider benefit of R1 000 paid to the beneficiary for three months after the policyholder’s death.
Eligibility, account or policy requirements
Pensioners: Abacus says you qualify if you are 18 to 64 years old and a South African citizen, permanent resident or valid work visa holder. Its FAQ also says the plan cannot currently cover parents or extended family. On the published terms, someone aged 65 or older cannot take out this plan, and adult children cannot add their retired parents to it.
Natural death is only covered after a waiting period of six consecutive months or six monthly premiums, whichever is later; accidental death is covered from the start if premiums are paid. The policy lapses after the due date of the third unpaid premium without further notice. PEP’s own funeral page advertises “up to R100 000” of cover and up to 21 family members, which does not match the Abacus tables above, so confirm the figures in store before you sign.
Premiums can be paid in cash at PEP, Ackermans, Dunns, Incredible Connection, HiFi Corp, Sleepmasters, Bradlows, Rochester or Russells using the payment reference Abacus gives you, or with a PEP, Dunns or Ackermans A+ store card. For a debit order, call Abacus; you must hold the bank account yourself, because the policyholder has to be the premium payer.
Escalation route
- Phone the claims line and ask which documents Abacus needs for your claim, then note the reference number. Abacus asks policyholders to tell beneficiaries about the policy and keep their details up to date.
- If a claim is delayed or declined, put the complaint in writing to complaints@abacus-insurance.co.za with the policy number and reference.
- If Abacus does not resolve it, the National Financial Ombud Scheme handles life and funeral insurance disputes on 0860 800 900 or info@nfosa.co.za.
