Discovery Retirement Fund Contact Details
The Discovery Retirement Funds member contact centre is 0860 222 999, and the member queries email is retirementfunds@discovery.co.za. Discovery Retirement Funds is Discovery’s name for two umbrella funds that employers join for their staff: the Discovery Life Pension Umbrella Fund and the Discovery Life Provident Umbrella Fund.

What Discovery Retirement Funds provides
The Discovery Retirement Funds are two umbrella funds that pool members from many participating employers:
- Discovery Life Pension Umbrella Fund, registration number 38174
- Discovery Life Provident Umbrella Fund, registration number 38179
Fund assets are invested in an insurance policy underwritten by Discovery Life Limited (registration 1966/003901/06), and the funds are administered by Discovery Employee Benefits. If membership is a condition of your employment, you must join, and you cannot leave the funds while you stay with that employer.
Under the two-pot system, each withdrawal from the savings component must be at least R2,000, and only one withdrawal is allowed per tax year.
Discovery’s published service levels are:
- Online switches made on the Member Zone before 10 am are done within 2 working days.
- Manual switches are done within 15 working days.
- Withdrawal claims are paid within 5 working days of receiving all required information: employer authorisation, documents, billing, tax directive and payment instruction.
Address and operating information
The contact centre on 0860 222 999 is open Monday to Wednesday from 08:30 to 17:00, Thursday from 09:00 to 17:00 and Friday from 08:30 to 16:00, according to Discovery’s current website. The older member booklet lists slightly different hours, so rely on the website times. Discovery does not publish a walk-in address for the funds.

- For a withdrawal or retirement claim, your employer authorises the claim on the employer zone and all supporting documents are uploaded. The funds then obtain a tax directive and pay within 5 working days of receiving everything.
