Official MFC payment relief route
Payment difficulties on an MFC vehicle finance contract are handled by Nedbank Collections. Call 0801 114 949 on Mondays to Fridays from 08:00 to 16:30, email collections.res@mfc.co.za, or fill in the payment problems form for a call-back. MFC says it will get back to you within 1 working day of a form request.
The options MFC describes are:
- Payment plan: if you cannot pay an instalment (for example during maternity leave), Nedbank Collections can set up a plan to pay the amount due over a few months, usually no more than 3.
- Payment freeze: for loss of income due to dismissal, retrenchment, maternity leave or suspension, MFC can, subject to terms, freeze payments for a maximum of 3 months.
- Restructure: with credit approval, a contract can be restructured to reduce or increase the instalment. Balloon payments can be restructured over 6, 12, 18, 24 or 36 months, and shortfall balances over up to 36 months.
The general enquiries line, 0860 879 900, is for other MFC questions. Statements, settlement figures and tax certificates are available on the My MFC Contract self-service site.
What you need before contacting MFC
For a payment freeze, MFC asks for documents that support your request. Depending on your situation, these are:
- a letter specifying your request
- a letter of retrenchment
- a letter of unpaid maternity leave
- a doctor’s note
- a UIF letter
- a police affidavit with all the facts
The payment problems form asks for your ID number or MFC account number, your email address and cellphone number, and the type of problem: arrears, debt review, court order, repossession or retrenched.
Step-by-step contact process
- Gather your supporting documents: a request letter plus a retrenchment or unpaid maternity leave letter, doctor’s note, UIF letter or police affidavit, as applicable.
- Email them to collections.res@mfc.co.za, call Nedbank Collections on 0801 114 949 (Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:30), or submit the payment problems form for a call-back.
- Agree a payment plan (usually up to 3 months), a payment freeze of up to 3 months, or a restructure, subject to credit approval and terms.
- Keep your debit order in place. MFC requires payment by debit order, and it may not be cancelled.
Be aware that arrears arising from a payment plan show on your MFC payment profile and at all credit bureaus. Once you are in arrears, MFC says its mandate is to collect within 15 days of default, so contact it before a payment is missed.
Escalation route
MFC does not publish a separate escalation line for payment relief. Use the payment problems line and email above, and keep a record of what was agreed. If you are under debt review, your debt counsellor sends a debt rearrangement proposal to the Debt Counselling Queries Department at debtcounsellingqueries@nedbank.co.za. MFC is a division of Nedbank Ltd (Reg. No 1951/000009/06), a registered credit provider, NCRCP16. Nedbank Ltd’s address is 135 Rivonia Road, Sandown, Sandton.
For other lenders, browse the banking and finance hub or the banking directory L to N listings.
