For Unisa exam enquiries, call the Student Communication Service Centre toll-free on 0800 00 1870 or email examenquiries@unisa.ac.za. Unisa is the University of South Africa, the public distance-learning university at unisa.ac.za (not UniSA, the University of South Australia), and its exam support is split between the Student Communication Service Centre, the Department of Student Assessment Administration and a separate exam mailbox for each college.

Official Unisa exam support route

The first stop for any exam problem is the Student Communication Service Centre (SCSC). Call 0800 00 1870 or email examenquiries@unisa.ac.za. Unisa asks students to report an online exam submission problem as soon as they run into it, not after the exam window has closed. The centre is open Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 19:00 and on Saturday from 08:00 to 14:00. WebChat is available on the Unisa corporate page and the myExam page, and self-help is on myUnisa.

Behind the SCSC sits the Department of Student Assessment Administration. Its call centre landline is 011 471 2433 and its mailbox for exam-related queries is exams@unisa.ac.za. Problems with proctoring tools (the Invigilator App, Moodle Proctoring, Turnitin and IRIS) go to a separate mailbox, proctoringenquries@unisa.ac.za. Note the spelling: Unisa publishes this address without the second “i”.

What you need before contacting Unisa about an exam

Unisa asks you to include the following when you report an exam problem, so it can be traced without a back-and-forth:

  • Your student number
  • The module code and your college
  • Your lecturer’s name, if you know it
  • A description of the problem, including your browser and its version and your connection speed
  • A screenshot
  • The date and time the problem happened

Step-by-step contact process

  1. As soon as an online exam problem happens, email examenquiries@unisa.ac.za or call 0800 00 1870.
  2. Give your student number, module code, college, a description of the problem, your browser, the time of the issue and a screenshot.
  3. If it is a proctoring tool problem, also write to proctoringenquries@unisa.ac.za.
  4. If the problem is not resolved, take it to Student Assessment Administration on 011 471 2433 or exams@unisa.ac.za, or to your college’s exam mailbox.

Escalation route

Unisa’s published escalation path for exam problems runs from the SCSC to the Department of Student Assessment Administration (011 471 2433, exams@unisa.ac.za) and your college’s exam mailbox.
