Aarto Contact Details
The AARTO contact number is the Road Traffic Infringement Authority (RTIA) head office line, 087 285 0500, and you can view and pay AARTO infringements online at online.aarto.gov.za. AARTO is the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Act, and the RTIA is the statutory agency that administers it; the RTIA says it is the only entity legally authorised to administer and process AARTO fines.

Avoid AARTO payment scams
The RTIA, together with SABRIC, warns of cloned AARTO payment portals and of scams sent by SMS, WhatsApp and email. Do not pay an AARTO fine through a link in a message. Go directly to online.aarto.gov.za or rtia.co.za. Third-party websites that explain AARTO are not official.
Services and responsibilities
The RTIA administers the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Act 46 of 1998, as amended by the AARTO Amendment Act 4 of 2019. The amendment adds rehabilitation programmes, apportionment of penalties and an Appeals Tribunal. The points-demerit system is planned for Phase 3.
AARTO Phase 2 started on 1 July 2026, after the Gauteng High Court struck SALGA’s urgent interdict application from the roll on 30 June 2026. Phase 2 covers 62 local and metropolitan municipalities, or 62 issuing authorities, with 283 combined sites. It builds on Johannesburg and Tshwane, where AARTO was already running.
