Abacus Funeral Cover Contact Details

The Abacus Funeral Plan is the funeral cover sold in Pepkor stores such as PEP, Ackermans and HiFi Corp, and it is underwritten by Abacus, Pepkor’s insurer (formerly JDG Micro Insurance and Life).

Official Abacus funeral cover route
The funeral plan page gives 031 570 7631 and 087 821 8222 for claims and policy updates, and 0800 777 444 for customer support. Abacus’s general contact page adds a Customer Care and Claims share-call number, 087 654 8222, and three mailboxes: claims@abacus-insurance.co.za, customercare@abacus-insurance.co.za and complaints@abacus-insurance.co.za. Customer care and claims are open Monday to Friday from 08h00 to 17h00.
Product or service support
The plan comes in three options:
- Individual: covers you only.
- Single Parent: covers you and up to 5 children.
- Family: covers you, your spouse and up to 5 children.
Parents and extended family cannot be covered, and children over 25 need their own policy. For individual cover, Abacus offers R15 000, R25 000 or R35 000 of cover for R60, R80 or R100 a month. After the burial, the beneficiary also gets R1 000 a month for 3 months.
You can pay the premium in cash at PEP, Incredible, HiFi Corp, Sleepmasters, Bradlows, Rochester, Russells, Dunns or Ackermans, with a PEP, Dunns or Ackermans A+ store card, or by debit order. To set up a debit order, call 0800 777 444 or 031 570 7631.
Eligibility, account or policy requirements
- You must be a South African citizen, a permanent resident or hold a valid work visa, and be aged 18 to 64.
- The policyholder must be the person who pays the premium.
- There is a waiting period for natural death of 6 consecutive months or 6 premiums, whichever is longer. Accidental death is covered during the waiting period.
- The policy lapses after the due date of the third unpaid premium, without further notice.
How to take out and claim on the plan
- Buy the plan at a participating Pepkor store.
- Choose how to pay: cash in store, a store card, or a debit order set up on 0800 777 444 or 031 570 7631.
- Nominate a beneficiary and give Abacus their details.
- To claim, call 031 570 7631 or 087 821 8222. The claims team will tell you which documents to send.
