MTN contract deals are listed at mtn.co.za/shop/deals/contracts and sold online or in any MTN Store. For questions about a deal by phone, dial 135 from an MTN phone or 083 135 from another network, or message MTN Chat on WhatsApp at 083 123 0011. MTN South Africa (MTN Proprietary Limited) does not publish a separate contract deals phone line, so these general channels are the contract route.

How to apply for an MTN contract deal
MTN gives three ways to find and take out a contract:
- Browse the offers online at mtn.co.za/shop/deals/contracts and apply there, or page through the monthly Y’ello Trader catalogue.
- Visit any MTN Store and apply with an agent. Find your nearest store at stores.mtn.co.za.
- If you already have a contract, see the upgrade offers at mtn.co.za/shop/upgrades/.

MTN contract types, terms and price plans
MTN offers three contract types: SIM-only (a SIM card and an activated price plan for a device you already own), SIM and device, and handset-only cash purchases for people who want a new phone without changing plan. Contracts run month-to-month, for 24 months or for 36 months.
The price plan families MTN lists on its contract options page are Mega Gigs (data-rich), Mega Talk (voice-rich), My MTNChoice (data plans that can be bundled with modems, tablets and Wi-Fi devices), My MTNChoice Flexi (an inclusive Rand value to use on voice, data and SMSs) and Sky. You can also add additional lines under an existing contract for family, friends or a business.
Upgrading an MTN contract
You qualify for a handset upgrade only after 20 months of a 24-month contract, and a device settlement fee applies. Upgrade offers are listed at mtn.co.za/shop/upgrades/. For questions about your own upgrade, the routes are the same as for any contract query: 135, 083 135 from another network, MTN Chat on WhatsApp or an MTN Store.
Changing your MTN price plan
Migrating price plans: dial 135 or visit an MTN Store and complete a migration application form. Bring your ID if you go in-store. Moving up to a bigger plan is free. Moving down carries a migration fee and possibly a device repayment charge. You must have been on your current plan for at least three months before you migrate. MTN’s USSD list also gives *136*4# as the code to compare and change price plans.
Cancelling an MTN contract or an order
- Contracts do not end on their own: if you do not cancel, the contract carries on month-to-month. MTN sends an expiry reminder.
- Notice: give notice 20 days before the contract ends. Cancellation can take up to 20 business days.
- Costs: cancelling may carry the outstanding device cost, one month’s subscription and remaining usage charges.
- Porting out early: MTN says cancellation fees apply if you port your number to another provider before the contract period ends.
To cancel, dial 135 and speak to an MTN agent, who will guide you through the process and give you a breakdown of the cancellation costs.
Cancelling an order: orders for physical items such as phones, routers and laptops can be cancelled when the courier, DSV, calls to arrange delivery. MTN says orders for bundles or downloaded content cannot be cancelled.
MTN contract complaints and fraud
Start with 135, 083 135 or MTN Chat. If you have had no feedback on a contract complaint, or 14 days have passed, email MTN Complaints Management at complaints@mtn.com. That mailbox is for escalations, not for sales or new applications. To report fraud, such as a contract taken out in your name, call 083 135 4357 or email Fraudhelp@mtn.com.
