MTN South Africa, registered as Mobile Telephone Networks (Pty) Ltd, is one of the country two largest mobile network operators. The contact routes below come from the MTN contact and important-numbers pages. MTN is an authorised Financial Services Provider under FSP licence number 44774, shown in the footer of its own site.

Official contact channels

The 135 short code is free only from an MTN handset. From a landline or a rival network you must dial 083 135, which is charged as a normal call to an MTN number. The fraud line ends in 4357, which spells HELP on a keypad – that is a deliberate mnemonic and not a typo.

What this organisation provides

MTN provides prepaid and contract mobile voice and data, fixed wireless and fibre broadband, device financing and mobile financial services including MoMo. Because it holds a financial services provider licence, some of what MTN sells is a financial product rather than a telecommunications service, and that distinction decides which regulator handles a dispute.

Have your MTN number, the identity number of the account holder and, for a contract, the account number ready before you call. For a SIM swap or a fraud report, expect to answer identity verification questions – MTN will not process either on the word of an unverified caller, and that friction is protecting you.

Address and operating information

MTN does not publish call centre operating hours on its contact page. The Fairland address is a corporate head office rather than a walk-in service centre – for in-person help use an MTN store, which the website locates for you.

Support and escalation routes

MTN sets an explicit internal escalation rule on its own contact page: if you have used any of its contact channels and have had no feedback, or 14 days have passed since you last heard from MTN, you should take the matter to its Complaints Management team. Quote your original reference number when you do.

If MTN does not resolve the complaint, the industry regulator accepts consumer complaints:

Complaints about MoMo, device insurance or another financial product fall outside the ICASA mandate and belong with the financial services ombud instead. State which product is involved when you lodge the complaint.
