What the Rustenburg operation does
Rustenburg is a shallow to intermediate PGM mine on the Western Limb of the Bushveld Complex, about 126km north-west of Johannesburg. Sibanye-Stillwater describes it this way:
- Shafts: three intermediate-depth vertical shafts (Siphumelele 1, Khuseleka 1 and Thembelani 1) and six shallow inclined mechanised shafts: Kwezi, K6, two Bathopele shafts, Kopaneng and Bambanani.
- Depth: Siphumelele 1 works to about 1,350m below surface, at 34 level.
- Processing: ore is processed at the Waterval UG2 concentrator and the K1 and K2 plants. All concentrate is then processed by Valterra Platinum under toll and purchase of concentrate (PoC) agreements.
- Tailings: tailings retreatment runs at the Platinum Mile plant.
- Reserves: as at 31 December 2025, the operation had 9.3Moz of attributable 4E PGM Mineral Reserves and 59.5Moz of Mineral Resources.
