Absa does not use the word consolidation for its product. Consolidating debt at Absa is the Switch and Save personal loan, which settles your existing lenders directly and combines the debt into one loan.
Official provider route
- Switch and Save, loan switching: 0860 100 372
- Personal loan applications: 0860 100 321
- Manage my debt, if you are in arrears: 0860 000 786
Product or service support
Absa switches personal loans of up to R350,000 and pays your existing creditors directly, so you do not receive the money and settle them yourself. Repayment terms run up to 84 months. The interest rate is personalised against your credit profile rather than fixed, you can request additional funds on top of the consolidated amount, and the loan carries embedded credit protection and earns Absa Rewards.
Eligibility, account or policy requirements
To apply you need a South African identity book or card and your last three months of payslips or bank statements. Customers who do not bank with Absa also need proof of residence such as a municipal or rates bill no older than three months. If you are self-employed you need an ITA34 tax certificate, six months of financial statements and a letter from your accountant or bookkeeper confirming the health of your accounts. Pensioners need a pension or retirement annuity statement. For a personal loan over 12 months or more you must earn at least R2,000 a month, have a bank account that the income is paid into, and be 18 or older.
Escalation route
Two cautions about numbers on the Absa site. The Switch and Save page also displays the text 0860 000 000, which is a placeholder made only of zeros and will not connect. Separately, 0860 100 372 is listed against the MegaU youth account in the main Absa contact directory while the switching page gives it for loan switching, so confirm you have reached the right desk. If you are already behind on repayments, consolidation may not be available and the Manage my debt route is the one Absa publishes. A complaint goes to the Complaint Resolution Suite on 0800 41 41 41, then to the National Credit Regulator on 0860 627 627 for the credit agreement; Absa is registered as a credit provider under NCRCP7.
