The only toll-free (0800) number African Bank publishes is the anonymous tip-off line. Its customer service and card lines are 0860 and 0861 numbers. The Talk to us page spells the personal fraud mailbox “fdtection@”, while the site footer links to fdetection@africanbank.co.za. We list the footer’s version. The bank also offers a virtual assistant called Karabo on its website, and cellphone banking on *120*225#.

What this organisation provides

African Bank Limited (registration number 2014/176899/06) is an authorised financial services provider and a registered credit provider, NCRCP7638. It offers personal loans, consolidation loans, the 12% Loan (R2 000 to R50 000 over 9 to 24 months), a credit card and tech deals on devices. Its banking products include the MyWORLD transactional account with pockets, overdrafts and PayShap payments. It also offers fixed and notice deposits, tax-free investments and stokvel accounts, plus funeral plans, credit life cover and business banking.

Several jobs can be done without calling. The Help guide has short videos on getting a statement, a settlement quote, a paid-up letter or a tax certificate, and on paying a loan or card account. You can stop a card yourself in the African Bank App or online banking, or by dialling *120*225#. African Bank also accepts document uploads on the WhatsApp number above.

African Bank’s head office and registered office is at 59 16th Road, Midrand, Johannesburg 1685, and its postal address is Private Bag X170, Midrand 1685. Branch addresses are in the branch locator on africanbank.co.za, and African Bank says you can apply for a loan or an overdraft at any branch.

Business and commercial banking has its own hours: Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00 and Saturday 09:00 to 12:00, closed on Sundays and public holidays. Funeral cover service runs Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00 and Saturday 09:00 to 13:00, while funeral claims work Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:30.

  2. Log a query on 0861 111 011, on WhatsApp or with Karabo, and note the reference you are given.

  4. If the bank does not resolve the complaint, take it to the National Financial Ombud Scheme on 0860 800 900 or info@nfosa.co.za. Credit agreement complaints can also go to the National Credit Regulator at complaints@ncr.org.za.
