That covers investment values, statements, fund information, changes to your details and retirement or other claim queries. Complaints go in writing to invest_complaints@discovery.co.za. Note the Friday close at 16:00. Discovery also prints a fax number for Discovery Invest, +27 011 539 5777. It publishes no WhatsApp number for investment clients and says it does not currently communicate with clients directly through WhatsApp.

Discovery Invest publishes no separate walk-in office or postal address on its contact section; service runs through the phone line, email, the app and your adviser. Discovery’s Sandton offices are at 1 Discovery Place, Sandhurst, Sandton, 2196.

Product or service support

Discovery Invest’s range covers retirement savings plans such as retirement annuities, retirement income plans and fixed annuities, flexible investment plans, endowments, guaranteed return plans and unit trust funds. Offshore, the Global Endowment Plan is issued by Discovery Life International, the Guernsey branch of Discovery Life Limited.

Discovery Invest sends email and SMS alerts for policy anniversaries, maturities and fund changes. You can update your details in the Discovery app or on the website, or use a “Request to change details” form from your financial adviser.

Eligibility, account or policy requirements

Discovery Invest is the brand of Discovery Life Investment Services (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2007/005969/07, an authorised financial services provider. Its life insurance based products are underwritten by Discovery Life Ltd, registration number 1966/003901/06.

Keep your contact details current. Discovery Invest encrypts documents that contain personal information, and they open with your identity number or date of birth, so wrong details can lock you out. It may also restrict transactions on policies where its anti-money laundering verification is incomplete.

Escalation route

1. If the concern is about advice you received, raise it with your financial adviser first, in writing, with supporting documents.
2. Otherwise, or if the adviser does not help, email invest_complaints@discovery.co.za with your policy number and the relevant correspondence. Discovery Invest says it aims to resolve complaints within 21 working days once it has all the information it needs, and will tell you if it cannot.
3. If there is no response within six weeks, or you disagree with it, go to the FAIS Ombud about advice (012 470 9080, info@faisombud.co.za), or to the National Financial Ombud Scheme about the product (0860 800 900, info@nfosa.co.za). Discovery says to do this within six months of its written response.

Global Endowment and Recurring Global Endowment complaints go to the Channel Islands Financial Ombudsman instead. Discovery also warns of scammers using its logo on WhatsApp, email and social media to promise returns of up to 100% in 24 hours, and of a fake video of its chief executive promoting an investment. Genuine Discovery emails come from addresses ending in discovery.co.za.
