GEPF does not publish a separate phone number for each regional office; the Contact Us page gives 0800 117 669 as the number to call wherever you are, including Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria. GEPF also runs mobile outreach visits and roadshows, with schedules published on gepf.co.za under Events.
GEPF self-service
GEPF does not list a separate self-service phone number. Its self-service channel is the GEPF Self-Service app, on the Apple App Store and Google Play, and the Self-Service Login on gepf.co.za. GEPF says the app lets you keep track of your policy and make changes at any time of day. GEPF’s FAQ page includes a section of Self-Service FAQs. About GEPF and who administers it
GEPF’s FAQ describes the Government Employees Pension Fund as an independent pension fund that manages pensions and related benefits for government employees. It is a separate legal entity, not a government institution, and was established in May 1996 when the Government Employees Pension Law came into force. It is a defined benefit fund: benefits follow the rules of that law and depend on your years of service and final salary, not on how the fund’s money is invested. A Board of 16 trustees governs the fund.
GEPF does not do its own administration. The Government Pensions Administration Agency (GPAA), a government component that reports to the Minister of Finance, administers the fund’s benefits under a service level agreement. That is why the walk-in offices above are GPAA offices. GEPF’s site also has sections for pensioners on life verification, pension increases and pension payment dates, and for members on retirement, resignation, funeral, death, divorce and unclaimed benefits and the two-pot system. Report suspected fraud involving GEPF benefits to the Fraud Helpline on 0800 203 900.
