Octotel publishes no telephone number at all, and that is deliberate rather than an oversight. It is an open-access fibre network operator, not an internet provider: it owns the line to your house but does not sell you the internet over it, so if your connection is down the company that can help is your ISP.

Your connection is down
- Contact your ISP first, not Octotel. Octotel directs all troubleshooting and technical support to the internet provider you pay each month
- Check status.octotel.co.za for live network notices, outages and area updates before logging anything. If your suburb is already listed, a support ticket adds nothing
- Your ISP raises a fault with Octotel on your behalf when the problem is the line rather than the service. That is the correct escalation path and it is faster than approaching the network directly
- A blinking or dark box at the wall is worth reporting to the ISP with a photograph. It tells them immediately whether to send a technician
Open access, and what it means for you
- Octotel describes itself as the Western Cape leading open-access fibre network, so its footprint is Cape Town and surrounds rather than national
- Open access means many ISPs sell service over the same Octotel line. You can change provider without a new installation
- A migration keeps your existing fibre line and only changes who bills you. Use the activations mailbox, or let the incoming ISP handle it, which is usually simpler
- If you have moved into a home that already has an Octotel box, you want a reconnection rather than a new installation. Those are different processes and different prices
Coverage, installation and disputes
- Check coverage on the Octotel site before signing anything with an ISP. Availability is street by street, not suburb by suburb
- Installation on a rented property needs the landlord permission, and in a complex usually the body corporate as well. Arrange that before booking
- Billing and contract disputes are with your ISP, since Octotel has no contract with you. Take those to the ISP first
- For an unresolved internet service complaint, ICASA is on 011 566 3000
