A brewery depot does not sell to the public. Depots supply licensed traders, and buying stock for resale requires a liquor licence issued by the provincial liquor authority. Selling alcohol without one is a criminal offence, not a technicality.

Getting a liquor licence
The licence is provincial, and the requirements differ by province, but the shape is consistent.
- Apply to the provincial liquor authority, not to a brewery or a distributor. No supplier can obtain one for you.
- Zoning consent from the municipality is usually required before the application succeeds. A residential stand is generally not eligible.
- Expect public notice and objection periods, and a site inspection.
- Renew on time. A lapsed licence means trading illegally, and stock can be seized.
Consultants who promise a guaranteed licence, or a fast one, are selling certainty nobody can sell. Applications are decided by a board.
