Stash is a tax-free investment app run by Liberty, not a standalone company. There is no separate Stash call centre, so support runs through the Liberty retail contact centre.

Official provider route

Product or service support

Stash lets you invest small amounts regularly through an app, from as little as R5 a day taken from a connected bank card, or as a once-off transfer at any time. You choose between an SA Top 40 shares portfolio, a Cash Plus portfolio, or a split across both. Liberty states there are no forms and no minimums, and the app includes a Stash for Kids option. The investment is structured as a tax-free investment, so growth is not taxed.

Eligibility, account or policy requirements

Because Stash is a tax-free investment, the annual and lifetime tax-free contribution limits set by SARS apply, and those limits count across every tax-free account you hold, not per provider. If you already contribute to a tax-free savings account elsewhere, add Stash contributions to that total before increasing them, because exceeding the limit attracts a tax penalty. The value of the share portfolio will rise and fall, and Liberty states that investment values are not guaranteed and you could get back less than you invested. The full terms, fees and limitations are in the Stash terms and conditions rather than on the product page.

Escalation route

Raise a query with the Liberty retail contact centre first and keep the reference. Liberty Group Limited is a licensed life insurer and an authorised financial services provider under FSP number 2409, and is part of the Standard Bank Group. Complaints about how the product was sold or the advice given go to the FAIS Ombud on 012 762 5000. Complaints about the handling of the investment itself go to the National Financial Ombud on 0860 800 900. The Financial Sector Conduct Authority is the licensing authority. Note that the corporate benefits number on the Liberty site is for employer schemes and is not a Stash channel.
