Unisa runs registration through myUnisa and one centralised student line – there is no separate registrations telephone number. The contact details below were read from unisa.ac.za on 2 September 2026.
Task scope
Registration is the step after you have applied and been accepted. It is where you choose and pay for modules for the year or semester, and it is done online.
Applying and registering are two different things, and this is where most Unisa confusion sits. An accepted application does not make you a student – you are only registered once you have selected modules and paid the required minimum. Miss the registration window and the acceptance does not carry you into the semester.

The Saturday hours are the useful part. The centre answers until 19:00 on weekdays and to 14:00 on Saturdays – unusually wide for a university, and worth using during a registration window when weekday lines are busiest.
Unisa labels [email protected] for “student misdirected enquiries and FAQs” – it is a catch-all rather than a registrations desk, so expect it to route rather than resolve. 012 429 4150 is a fax.
Requirements
You need your student number, an accepted application for the qualification, and access to myUnisa and your myLife email account – Unisa communicates through myLife rather than a personal address, so an inaccessible myLife account means missing everything that matters.
Registration is not complete until the minimum payment reflects. Unisa publishes its payment methods and banking details alongside a web credit card facility, and an EFT takes days to clear – paying on the closing day is how people end up unregistered.
Registration windows differ by qualification level. Unisa publishes separate routes for undergraduate qualifications, honours degrees and postgraduate diplomas, and master’s and doctoral degrees – check the dates for your own level rather than assuming one deadline covers all.
Steps
- Check the registration dates published for your qualification level
- Log in to myUnisa with your student number
- Select your modules for the semester or year
- Pay at least the required minimum, allowing clearing time
- Check that the registration reflects, and download proof of registration
Download proof of registration once it is done. It is what NSFAS, bursary funders, employers and study-leave applications ask for, and retrieving it later during peak periods is slower than saving it now.

Escalation
For a module, curriculum or prerequisite question, go to your college rather than the general line – Unisa publishes contacts for each: Accounting Sciences, Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Economic and Management Sciences, Education, Human Sciences, Law, Science Engineering and Technology, and the College of Graduate Studies. The Student Communication Centre will refer you there anyway.
Keep your student number, the dates and any reference on every contact. Where a registration failed because a payment did not reflect, the proof of payment and its date are the evidence that matters.
Beyond the university, a complaint about a public higher education institution goes to the Department of Higher Education and Training, maladministration to the Public Protector, and an NSFAS funding decision back to NSFAS – Unisa administers the payment but does not make the funding decision.
