Services and responsibilities
ECSA is the only body in South Africa authorised to register engineering professionals and to give titles such as Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng, Pr Techni Eng and Pr Cert Eng. Its core functions are:
- Accrediting engineering programmes
- Registering candidates, professionals and specified categories
- Regulating the practice of Registered Persons

Applications and escalation
First-time applicants apply for registration through the ECSA Online Portal at engineeringcouncilsa.microsoftcrmportals.com. The new-applicants section of ecsa.co.za explains the registration categories, annual fees and the Identification of Engineering Work Rule.
To complain about improper conduct by a Registered Person, complete the prescribed complaint affidavit (Annexure A) and send it to the Improper Conduct Business Unit at ecsa-ic@ecsa.co.za.
