The Limpopo Department of Education is one of eleven provincial departments, all administered from Polokwane. Its own website at edu.limpopo.gov.za does not currently resolve at all — the domain returns no DNS record — so the details below come from the Limpopo Provincial Government portal, which publishes them.
Limpopo Department of Education, Polokwane
- Head of Department office: 015 290 7022
- Head of Department office fax: 086 586 0116
- Head of Department: Mr Maropene Viniel Seshibe
That 015 number is the office line for the head of the department, published in the provincial directory of heads of department. The mailbox listed beside it is an individual staff address rather than a departmental one and is not repeated here, because it changes when staff do.
Provincial government contact details
- Switchboard, all departments: 015 287 6000
- Physical address: Mowaneng Building, 40 Hans van Rensburg Street, Polokwane 0699
- Postal address: Private Bag X8493, Polokwane 0700
The switchboard is the reliable entry point while the department’s own site is down. Ask for the Department of Education by name and give the district or the school, because the department is organised by district office rather than centrally.
Which office handles what
The provincial head office in Polokwane sets policy, handles procurement, appointments and payroll for educators, and answers for the department as a whole. Anything about a particular learner — admission, transfer, a school fee exemption, a lost report — is handled by the school first and then by the circuit or district office, not by Polokwane. The provincial office will send a learner query back down the chain, so starting at the school saves weeks.
If the department does not respond
- National schooling policy sits with the Department of Basic Education, which is the escalation point once the province has failed to resolve something.
- The Public Protector takes complaints about maladministration by a provincial department, and its service is free.
- For an urgent safety matter at a school, the district office and the SAPS are faster than either.
Note that the department’s own domain being unreachable is not the same as the department being unreachable. Staff mailboxes on edu.limpopo.gov.za still work; it is the public website that is down.
