There are two specialists practising as Dr Mutanda in South Africa, in different provinces and entirely different specialities – an ear, nose and throat surgeon in Limpopo and a paediatrician in Mpumalanga. Both sets of details below come from the Mediclinic doctor directory.

Dr Charles Mutanda – Paediatrician, Nelspruit
- Rooms: 013 752 6115. The profile prints it twice; it is the same number repeated, not a second line.

- MBChB, University of Zimbabwe, 1993; FC Paed (SA), Colleges of Medicine, 2001; MMed (Paediatrics), Medunsa, 2003. Practises at Mediclinic Nelspruit.
A third name to be aware of. Two further practitioners use the surname Mutanda-Musoke, which is a different surname and different people: an obstetrician and gynaecologist in Eloffsdal, Pretoria, and a paediatrician at Ferncrest Hospital, Tlhabane, Rustenburg. Their details are not listed here because they are a separate family name, but a search for Mutanda will surface them.
What this organisation provides
- Dr Tafy Mutanda – otorhinolaryngology, commonly called ENT: conditions of the ear, nose, throat, head and neck, including hearing loss, sinus disease, tonsils and adenoids, and airway problems. ENT covers both medical treatment and surgery.
- Dr Charles Mutanda – paediatrics: the medical care of infants, children and adolescents, including growth and development, childhood infections, asthma and chronic childhood illness.
- The two are as far apart in practice as two specialities get. If your referral letter does not name a first name, the speciality on it will tell you which Dr Mutanda you need.

- Note on the town name: Nelspruit is now officially Mbombela. Mediclinic and most medical listings still use Nelspruit, so search both if you are looking the practice up elsewhere.
- The two practices are roughly 500km apart, one in Limpopo and one in Mpumalanga.
- Consulting hours are not published for either. Specialist rooms run by appointment during weekday business hours.
Support and escalation routes
- Bring the referral letter and any prior tests. For ENT that means audiograms and scans; for paediatrics, the Road to Health booklet, immunisation record and growth chart, which are more useful than most parents expect.
- Surgery and day procedures need scheme pre-authorisation before the date, and the specialist, the facility and any anaesthetist bill separately.
- Complaints about professional conduct or standard of care go to the Health Professions Council of South Africa on 012 389 9300. Scheme disputes go to the Council for Medical Schemes after the scheme’s own appeal.
