Mediclinic emergency number

Mediclinic publishes 084 124 as its emergency number in the footer of its site. That is the number to dial for an ambulance, not the Engagement Centre hotline, which keeps office-style hours and handles enquiries rather than dispatch.

For a medical emergency you can also go directly to the nearest Mediclinic emergency centre; the hospital locator on the site lists which hospitals have one.

Contacting a specific Mediclinic hospital

Mediclinic runs multi-disciplinary acute care private hospitals and day clinics across South Africa and Namibia, and each one has its own switchboard. The group’s own advice is to use the hospital finder rather than the national number when your question is about a specific hospital:

  • Open “find a hospital near me” or the hospital locator on mediclinic.co.za.
  • Use the hospital’s own number for ward enquiries, visiting hours, theatre bookings and accounts.
  • Use “find a doctor or specialist near me” to reach a consulting room, since specialists are independent practitioners with their own rooms and numbers.
  • Pre-admission can be completed online, which saves the paperwork queue on the day.

What to have ready when you call Mediclinic

  • Know which hospital you are asking about. Mediclinic is a group, and the national line cannot see a specific ward’s diary or a hospital’s account system.
  • For an account, have the hospital name, the patient’s details and the invoice or file number. Hospital accounts and the treating doctor’s account are billed separately, so check which one the statement came from before you query it.
  • For a procedure quote, ask about Private Fixed Fees by name; it is a published fixed-price route rather than an ordinary quotation.
  • For an admission, complete the online pre-admission first and take your ID, medical aid card and the referring doctor’s letter.
  • WhatsApp and SMS both work by sending the single word “Engage”, after which the centre replies with options; it is the easiest route outside phone-queue hours.

Mediclinic complaints, compliments and the ethics line

Mediclinic takes patient feedback on a Patient Compliments and Complaints form on its site rather than by phone. It also publishes patient experience results under its quality section, which is worth reading if you are choosing between hospitals.

Unethical or fraudulent conduct goes to a separate, independently run ethics line:

Where Mediclinic operates

Mediclinic Southern Africa describes itself as operating a range of multi-disciplinary acute care private hospitals in South Africa and Namibia, with day clinics alongside them. Its Southern African business is part of the wider Mediclinic group, whose Swiss operations trade as Hirslanden and are linked from the same site. The Namibian arm shares the Engagement Centre channels above but has its own ethics line numbers, listed under the ethics line heading.

For a specific location, see our A to Z list of Mediclinic hospitals and branches.
