Mediclinic runs recruitment through a dedicated careers site and a candidate helpline rather than through the HR office of any individual hospital. There is one candidate line for South Africa and a separate one for Namibia, and neither is the general hospital number. Ringing a hospital switchboard about a job application will not reach the people who handle it.

Task scope

This covers applying for a job at Mediclinic, following up an application already submitted, and finding the right route for the three different kinds of opportunity the group publishes: employment, training and higher education, and practice opportunities for doctors. It does not cover patient enquiries, which go to the main hotline, and it does not cover payroll or leave for current employees, which are internal systems rather than public contact routes.

Route

The two candidate lines are easy to miss on the Mediclinic contact page, because they appear as links labelled by nationality rather than as printed numbers. The heading above them reads Career Opportunities, and the numbers only become visible if you follow the links.

Requirements

Mediclinic publishes three separate nursing career paths, and knowing which one you are applying into shapes both the qualification required and who assesses the application: a clinical career path, a management career path, and an education and training career path. Saying which path you are aiming at when you call shortens the conversation considerably.

Applications themselves go through the careers site. The candidate line exists to help with the process, not to bypass it, so calling before you have created an application will usually just return you to the website.

Doctors are handled as a separate category entirely. Mediclinic lists Doctor Opportunities apart from Career Opportunities, with its own mailbox, which signals that practising at a Mediclinic hospital is arranged differently from being employed by one. If you are a specialist looking to practise rather than to be employed, practice@mediclinic.co.za is the correct route and the candidate line is not.

Steps

Escalation

For anything about an application, the candidate line for your country is both the first and the last internal step, because recruitment is centralised rather than devolved to hospitals.

Conduct is handled separately and deliberately so. Mediclinic runs a fraud and ethics reporting channel through an external tip-offs service rather than through its own management, reachable at mediclinic@tip-offs.com, on 0800 005 316 in South Africa and on 0800 003 313 in Namibia. The point of routing it outside the company is that a report does not pass through the people it might concern, which matters if the issue is with a manager or an interview process.

Two limits are worth being clear about. A dispute between Mediclinic and a current or former employee is a labour matter, and the statutory route in South Africa is the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration rather than any Mediclinic line. And a complaint about patient care is not an HR matter at all: it goes through the patient compliments and complaints form or the general hotline, and sending it to a candidate line simply delays it.
