- Ask for the PRO by title, not by name. The post is what matters, and the person in it changes.
- It is a real complaints route, not a press office. That is unusual and it means a complaint reaches someone whose job is to answer it.
- Ask for a reference number on the call, because every escalation stage afterwards will want it.
- For a clinic rather than a hospital, the district office is the equivalent starting point.
Stanger and KwaDukuza are the same place
Two renames overlap here, and between them they account for most failed searches in this district.
- The town of Stanger is now KwaDukuza. Both names remain in daily use.
- Stanger Hospital is now General Justice Gizenga Mpanza Regional Hospital. It is the same 545 bed regional and district hospital, serving the iLembe district.
- Official systems use only the current names. Searching provincial listings or a medical scheme network for “Stanger Hospital” can return nothing at all, which is why people conclude it has closed.
Finding the clinic that covers you
With thirty-three primary health care clinics in the district, the right question is which clinic covers your address, not which is nearest. Public clinics work on catchment areas.
- Phone the district office on 032 437 3500 and give your suburb or area.
- Check your clinic card. It names the facility you are registered at and usually its number.
- Ask at the clinic itself. For primary care, which is largely walk-in, going in person is often quicker than phoning.
