Malmesbury Clinic is a Western Cape public health facility in the Swartland, part of the West Coast district. The province does not publish a switchboard for individual clinics, so the working routes are the health enquiries and complaints line 0860 142 142, and the facility in person.
For an emergency call 10177, or 112 from a mobile. ContactDetails.co.za is an independent directory and is not the clinic or the department.

Clinic or hospital, and why it matters here
Malmesbury has both a clinic and a district hospital, and arriving at the wrong one costs hours. The clinic handles primary care. The hospital handles admissions, emergencies and referrals.
- Go to the clinic for chronic medication, immunisation, family planning, antenatal care, TB and HIV services, and ordinary consultations.
- Go to the hospital, or call an ambulance, for serious injury, chest pain, stroke symptoms, severe bleeding, or a labour that has started.
- A referral letter moves you between them. If the clinic refers you onward, keep the letter, because it determines where you are seen and how quickly.
- Emergency treatment may not be refused for inability to pay.
A farming district, and seasonal workers
The Swartland is wheat and wine country, and its population includes seasonal farm workers who may not be registered at the local facility. That causes avoidable problems at the counter.
- You cannot be turned away for lack of a local address. Public health services are not restricted to residents of a particular town.
- Bring your ID and any clinic card you hold, even one from another province, because it carries your treatment history.
- Chronic medication can usually be transferred between facilities. Ask rather than going without, and bring the empty packaging or the prescription.
- Injuries at work go through your employer as well, since a workplace injury may be claimable under compensation legislation. Report it to the employer the same day.
