Discovery gives two sets of hours for 0860 751 751. Its Contact Us page says Monday to Friday and Saturday 08:00 to 18:00, while its Discovery Insure FAQs and site footer say Monday to Friday 08:00 to 18:00 and Saturday 08:00 to 13:00. On a Saturday, call before 13:00.

Emergency help after a car accident

Discovery’s claims page says to call Discovery 911 on 0860 999 911 immediately if you are in an emergency. Discovery 911 lists emergency roadside assistance such as towing or jump-starting a vehicle, help with directions, and someone to keep in contact with you on long-distance drives. If you have Vitality Drive with a telematics device, Impact Alert detects a severe impact: Discovery tries to call you, and if it cannot reach you it sends emergency medical help to the scene. The vehicle panic button lets you press an Android phone’s power button five times, or tap the red panic button in the Discovery Insure app on iOS, to send an alert.

How to claim on Discovery car insurance

• Discovery app: take photos of the accident scene, capture the other driver’s and witnesses’ details and send them to start your claim.
• Auto Claims: vehicle glass claims (and geyser, cellphone and electronic equipment claims) can go to Discovery’s automated claims agent online or in the app, and Discovery says they can be approved within minutes.
• Website: log in and start the claim, and a claims adviser contacts you.
• Financial adviser or phone: your adviser can submit it, or call 0860 751 751.
• Track it: follow the claim’s progress online with ClaimsView.

Discovery’s FAQs say it does not use your DQ-Track data to approve claims; it uses it only to verify the time and location of an incident, and can help you use it against a third party with your permission. New customers must also do a vehicle pre-inspection within 5 days of cover starting (not needed for brand new cars), which you can do by uploading photos in the Discovery app, or future claims could be rejected.

Discovery says premiums are personalised to your profile, cover and risk. Its Comprehensive cover includes theft, hijacking, hail, storm, fire and accidental damage; Third Party, Fire and Theft excludes accidental damage; and Third Party Only does not cover your own vehicle.

Cancelling, Drive Centres and cross-border cover

To cancel your car insurance, call 0860 751 751. Discovery debits any unpaid premiums, and unpaid rewards are forfeited. If you have a standalone DQ-Track, have it removed or you pay a R1 180 fee.
