Discovery’s home insurance is sold by Discovery Insure, and a home claim can be submitted online, in the Discovery app or by calling 0860 751 751, with claim emails going to insureclaims@discovery.co.za. For a household emergency such as a break-in, a burst pipe or being locked out, call Discovery 911 on 0860 999 911, which runs 24 hours a day. People also search for Discovery Insure in Cape Town and Durban. Discovery Insure publishes no city branch numbers for home insurance, so the national number above applies everywhere. The walk-in sites Discovery Insure lists are three Discovery Drive Centres, which handle vehicle services such as tracking device installs and minor damage assessments on registered car claims. The Cape Town centre is on the corner of Bree Street and Strand Street (021 527 1250, weekdays 08:00 to 17:00, Saturdays 08:00 to 15:00). The other two are in Sandton and Menlyn, Pretoria. No Durban centre is listed.

What Discovery Insure home cover includes and how claims are handled
Discovery Insure Ltd, registration number 2009/011882/06, is a licensed non-life insurer and authorised financial services provider, separate from Discovery Health and Discovery Bank. Its home cover has three parts: buildings insurance for the main building and outbuildings, household contents insurance for owners and tenants, and portable possessions cover for items taken out of the home. Claims tools include:
- Auto Claims can approve geyser and electronic equipment claims instantly when submitted online or in the app; others go to a claims agent.
- FastTrack claims under portable possessions replace specified phones, tablets and laptops within 48 hours of approval, or the basic excess is waived.
- ClaimsView shows the progress of a buildings, contents or portable possessions claim and the service provider’s contact details.
- On the Classic and Purple plans there is no excess on weather-related building claims, or on theft and weather claims under household contents.
- Buildings cover includes burst or leaking geysers and pipes; wear and tear on geysers and pipes is an optional extra, built into the Purple Plan.
- Track the claim on ClaimsView or in the app, and raise problems on 0860 751 751 with your claim number.
- Put an unresolved complaint in writing to insurecomplaints@discovery.co.za.
