Emerald Life claims: how to claim a funeral policy
Emerald Life does not publish a downloadable funeral claim form, a claims email address or a separate claims number on emeraldlife.co.za. To claim, call Emerald-Life-On-Call on 0860 555 991 for help with making a claim, repatriation of the deceased and undertakers, or call head office on 0861 666 333, or visit your nearest branch.
Emerald-Life-On-Call is run by FMS and is included in every plan with no waiting period. It also gives advice on claims procedures and on obtaining a death certificate. Claim waiting periods run from the Acceptance Date: 6 months for death from natural causes, 12 months for suicide and none for an accident.
Repatriation
Repatriation of the deceased is arranged through Emerald-Life-On-Call on 0860 555 991. If you use your own service provider, submit its invoice to the appointed provider and the cost it would have incurred is paid to you as a monetary benefit.
How to cancel an Emerald Life policy
Emerald Life does not publish a separate cancellation email. Cancellation must be given as written notice by the policyholder; send it to info@emeraldlife.co.za or hand it in at a branch. If you cancel within the 31-day cooling-off period after receiving the Policy Summary, premiums paid are refunded. After that, the policy ends at the end of the month in which the notice is received. Changes to a policy must be applied for in writing on a form Emerald Life provides, and apply from the start of the month in which they are approved.
How to pay Emerald Life premiums
Premiums are paid by debit order or stop order, or in cash at PEP, Checkers, Shoprite, Spar, Ackermans, Boxer and Pick n Pay by quoting your pay@ number.
What Emerald Life offers
Emerald Life (Pty) Ltd describes itself as a licensed life microinsurer, the first licensed in South Africa, selling affordable funeral insurance through a national tied-advisor network. Its plans are the Care Family Funeral Plan, the Advanced Funeral Plan, the Family Advanced Funeral Plan and the Pensioner and Family plan, with benefits that include funeral cover, double accidental death cover, and related services and repatriation, depending on the plan. Emerald Life says premiums start from R65 a month, depending on risk profile and product, and up to 18 family members can be covered on one plan. Its FAQs say the lives assured and beneficiaries must be South African citizens, and policies have no cash value. Emerald Life is also taking over funeral policies from Lion Life under a section 50 transfer, and says affected policyholders’ benefits remain unchanged.
Emerald Life pensioner plan and SASSA
Emerald Life sells a Pensioner and Family funeral plan, listed on its Products page. Its website does not mention SASSA or grant deductions; premiums are paid by debit order, stop order or cash via pay@ at retailers.
