Flexicare Discovery Contact Details
The Flexicare Discovery contact number is 0860 444 779, and the same number is Ask Flexicare on WhatsApp, Flexicare’s chatbot for finding network doctors, changing your doctor and getting your digital membership card. Flexicare is a health insurance product offered by Auto&General and administered by Discovery Health; Discovery’s website says it is not a medical aid (not a medical scheme). Use 0860 444 779 for Flexicare policy questions. Discovery’s Prepaid Health product has its own number (0800 33 78 46, Monday to Friday 07:00 to 17:00) and should not be confused with Flexicare. Discovery’s general line, 0860 99 88 77, is listed on its Contact Us page for queries it cannot resolve through its Get Help service or WhatsApp.
Using Ask Flexicare on WhatsApp
- Find a network doctor: the chatbot directs you to the Find a Provider tool, which shows Flexicare network providers near you and lets you make a booking.
- Your chosen doctor: Flexicare allocates your network doctor when it receives the first claim for a consultation. You can have one chosen doctor at a time and change doctor twice a year, by WhatsApp or by calling 0860 444 779.
- Membership card: view and download your digital membership card and membership number, which Flexicare network providers accept. You can also request a physical card, delivered within 4 to 6 weeks.
Flexicare network doctors and new members
Discovery says Flexicare has over 2,000 doctors on its network across South Africa and also covers online doctor consultations through discovery.co.za, so Flexicare does not cover consultations with non-network doctors. New members receive a Flexicare welcome message on WhatsApp on the day they join, with the digital membership card and membership number. Flexicare is not a medical aid: Discovery explains that medical schemes, governed by the Medical Schemes Act, must pay for Prescribed Minimum Benefits (27 chronic conditions and 270 diseases), and Flexicare, as health insurance, is not a substitute for that.

Flexicare covers everyday healthcare outside hospital, including unlimited GP consultations (four direct GP visits, with more through a nurse referral or the Intercare online platform), virtual GP and nurse consultations, dentistry, optometry, medicine, a flu vaccine, blood tests, procedures in GP rooms and a health check. Flexicare Plus adds one out-of-hospital specialist consultation per member per year, up to a R2,090 benefit limit. Each adult member can earn up to R1,000 a year in their FlexiFund based on health check results, which pays claims once day-to-day benefits run out.
Does Flexicare cover hospital?
Flexicare itself covers out-of-hospital care. For emergency hospital cover you can add Discovery Emergency Cover for an extra monthly premium: at the R400,000 level, Emergency Core is R218, Plus R313 and Max R439 for a principal member; at the R1,000,000 level they are R313, R440 and R626. Discovery says heart attacks and strokes are covered only with Emergency Cover Plus or Max. Waiting periods apply to all new Flexicare policies, including people moving from a medical scheme. The minimum age for a main member is 18; you can add your spouse and children, and children become adult dependants at 21.
Flexicare is administered by Discovery Health (Pty) Ltd (registration number 1997/013480/07), an authorised financial services provider, and underwritten by Auto&General Insurance Company Limited (registration number 1973/016880/06), an authorised non-life insurer. Discovery states that Flexicare is not a medical scheme and is not intended to replace medical scheme membership.
