Liberty publishes a specific self-service route for funeral cover quotes, alongside its general enquiries and claims line. For an existing policy or a claim, the contact centre is the route; for a quote, the WhatsApp channel is the one Liberty points to.

Official provider route

Liberty lists funeral quotes explicitly among the functions its WhatsApp self-service handles, together with policy documents, claims, tax certificates and financial adviser details. It does not publish a separate funeral-cover telephone number.

Product or service support

Funeral cover is designed to pay out quickly to meet the immediate costs of a burial, which makes it different in character from the rest of Liberty’s life range. The value of the product is almost entirely in the speed of the payout, and that speed depends on two things being in order beforehand: premiums up to date, and the claimant able to produce the required documents.

Because a funeral claim is made in the days after a death, the practical work is best done long before. Confirm who the beneficiary is, confirm they know the policy exists, and confirm they know where the policy number is kept.

Eligibility, account or policy requirements

The WhatsApp route being the published channel for quotes is worth noting in its own right. It means a quote can be obtained without a call and without a consultant calling back, which suits a product people often research quietly before discussing it with family.

Have the policy number, the identity number of the deceased and the claimant’s identification ready. A death certificate is generally required. Liberty does not publish the full document checklist on its contact page, so ask for it on the first call and get it in writing rather than assembling documents twice.

Funeral policies commonly carry a waiting period before the full benefit becomes payable and lapse if premiums stop. Both are terms of the policy schedule rather than discretionary decisions a consultant can waive, so check the schedule before assuming a claim will pay.

Escalation route

If the policy was bought through an adviser or at a branch, the servicing routes above are still the correct ones for a claim. Waiting to reach the original salesperson generally adds delay at the point where speed is the whole value of the product.

Get a claim reference on the first contact and keep the WhatsApp thread or email trail, since a written record is worth considerably more than a recollection of a phone call when a claim is queried.

If a funeral claim is declined or delayed and Liberty’s internal complaints process does not resolve it, the National Financial Ombud Scheme handles long-term insurance complaints in South Africa, including funeral policies.
