Netcare Gap Cover Contact Details
Netcare gap cover is sold as NetcarePlus GapCare. Two things matter before you buy it: the hospital group is not the insurer, and you do not have to be on a Netcare-linked medical scheme to take it. It is underwritten by The Hollard Insurance Company, with NetcarePlus as the authorised financial services provider.
Official contact channels
- NetcarePlus GapCare: 0860 101 151
- Quotes and applications run through the NetcarePlus Gap Cover pages on netcare.co.za
- Underwriter: The Hollard Insurance Company Limited, a licensed non-life insurer and authorised FSP
- A claim is an insurance claim against Hollard, administered under the NetcarePlus product. It is not settled by a Netcare hospital
- The gap cover line cannot help with a Netcare hospital account or a booking. Those go to the hospital itself
What the three tiers do
- GapCare covers shortfalls up to 500% of medical aid tariffs. Premiums stated from R315 to R345 a month
- GapCare 300+ adds up to 300% cover for out-of-hospital shortfalls. From R375 to R410
- GapCare 500+ adds up to 500% for out-of-hospital shortfalls. From R415 to R450
- Named sub-limits include R25 000 for prenatal testing in high-risk pregnancies, R35 000 a year for charges above medical aid sub-limits and R10 000 a year for out-of-network hospital stays
- Premiums were stated to increase on 1 January 2026, so confirm the current figure rather than relying on a quote you saved
The waiting periods are the catch
- Three months general waiting period, with accidents and trauma exempt from it
- Twelve months for pre-existing conditions, counted from diagnosis or treatment
- Twelve months for pregnancy and childbirth. If you are planning a family, buying gap cover after you conceive is too late
- Twelve months for non-emergency procedures
- Buy it while you are well. Gap cover taken out because a procedure is already scheduled will usually not pay for that procedure
What gap cover is and is not
- It pays the difference between what a specialist charges and what your medical scheme reimburses. It is not medical aid and cannot replace it
- You must be on a medical scheme for it to work. If the scheme declines the claim entirely, there is usually no shortfall for the gap policy to cover
- Gap cover in South Africa is capped by regulation at an annual limit per person, which is why every provider quotes an annual maximum
- Check whether your specialists charge above the rates the tier covers. A 500% cover on a doctor charging 600% still leaves you paying
