Old Mutual Max Investment Contact Details

Verified 6 September 2026Official source onlyIndependent directoryReport a wrong number

Max Investments has its own service desk inside Old Mutual, separate from the general 0860 933 333 client line. If your money is in a Max product, this is the desk that holds it, and going through the general line usually means being transferred here anyway.

Max Investments contact details

Old Mutual publishes these on the fund fact sheets for the Max range rather than on a contact page, which is why they are hard to find with a general search.

Two neighbouring desks that are not the same

  • Max Income, for the income products in the same family: 0860 605 500, fax 0860 607 500 or 0860 609 500, maxincome@oldmutual.com
  • Old Mutual Wealth, a separate platform entirely: 0860 999 199, fax 0860 999 197, service@omwealth.co.za, omwealth.co.za

Max Investments and Max Income share a telephone number and fax number but not a mailbox, so an email sent to the wrong one of the two will sit unactioned rather than be redirected. Old Mutual Wealth is a different platform with its own number, and a Wealth query does not belong on the Max line at all. Check which name appears on your own statement before you dial.

What sits under the Max name

Max is a product family rather than a single investment. Old Mutual lists the Max Investment Plan, an investment plan on the LISP platform, a retirement annuity, an optimal retirement plan, a preservation fund and a living annuity under it. That matters when you call: say which of them you hold and quote the plan number, because the rules on access, tax and transfers differ sharply between them.

Have this ready

  • Your plan or policy number and your identity number
  • Which Max product it is, in the words used on your statement
  • For a withdrawal, whether it is a retirement product, because those are restricted by law rather than by Old Mutual
  • For a transfer, the receiving fund details, since a transfer between approved funds is generally not taxed while a withdrawal is

Reading the fee line before you phone

The Max fund fact sheets publish an asset management fee, a guarantee and smoothing fee where the fund is smoothed, and a total expense ratio. Old Mutual notes on those sheets that a higher total expense ratio does not necessarily mean a poor return and a lower one does not necessarily mean a good one, and that transaction costs are a separate and necessary cost of administering the fund. Read your own fact sheet before the call and you will get a much more useful conversation about charges.

If a query is not resolved

Follow up in writing to the mailbox above, quoting the original date and any reference. Old Mutual publishes a complaints route on its main site, and an unresolved complaint about a retirement fund can be taken to the Pension Funds Adjudicator, while other financial services complaints go to the National Financial Ombud Scheme. Both are free to use.
