FoneYam rental instalments are collected through Pay@ rather than by debit order, which means you push the payment yourself each month. Missing one has an immediate consequence: FoneYam locks the device remotely until the payment reflects.
Where to pay
- In store at any Pay@ enabled till, which FoneYam lists as PEP, Ackermans, Dunns, HiFiCorp, Shoprite and Pick n Pay
- Online at payat.io
- By EFT to FoneYam. The banking details and your reference are on the Device Rental Schedule you were sent after approval, and can be confirmed on 0860 900 900. Always take them from FoneYam directly rather than from a message or a third-party page
- Every payment method needs your 18-digit Pay@ reference number, issued during your application. A payment without it may not be matched to your account
Checking what and when you owe
- Dial *134*33011#, which is free, to view your payment details
- Log in to your account on the FoneYam website
- Say Hi on WhatsApp to 0860 900 900
- Your Device Rental Schedule, sent after approval, sets out every payment amount and due date for the whole contract
- Due dates depend on the offer. On the Blue offer the first monthly payment falls 30 days after the Day-7 payment and then on the same day each month; on the Yellow offer it falls one month after you collected the device
If a payment is missed
FoneYam locks the handset remotely when a payment is late. A locked device cannot make calls, send texts or use data, but it can still reach the FoneYam contact centre on 0860 900 900 and make emergency calls.
- If you know you cannot pay on time, FoneYam asks you to contact it before the due date to arrange something. Call 0860 900 900 or email [email protected]
- If you have paid and the device is still locked, check that the SIM has ordinary data, not a social or WhatsApp-only bundle, or connect the phone to WiFi so it can receive the unlock
- A device is also locked for reasons other than payment: changing the SIM card without prior approval, going 30 days or more without data or WiFi, or the contract coming to an end
Escalation route
- Keep the Pay@ receipt or EFT proof with the 18-digit reference. That reference is what resolves an unallocated payment fastest
- If a correctly referenced payment is not allocated, phone 0860 900 900 during contact centre hours, Monday to Friday 08:00 to 18:00, Saturday 08:00 to 17:00, Sunday 09:00 to 16:00 and public holidays 09:00 to 17:00, and ask for a reference number
- FoneYam publishes a fraud page on its website. If anyone asks you to pay a FoneYam instalment into a different account, treat it as fraudulent and confirm the details with FoneYam first
