For a Telkom contract, meaning a postpaid mobile account, the number is 081 180. Telkom’s WhatsApp line is 081 160 1700. New contract sales are on 10213. We read this on telkom.co.za and in Telkom’s End User and Subscriber Service Charter on 24 September 2026.

10210 is not the mobile number

This one trips up a lot of people, and it is worth getting right before you waste a call. Telkom’s own service charter sets out its call centres by category. 10210 is for fixed line residential services queries, not for mobile. Mobile, which covers contract and postpaid accounts, is 081 180.

The other two are easy to mix up as well. 10217 is fixed line business, and 10213 is sales. So a question about an existing contract goes to 081 180, while wanting a new contract goes to 10213.

Telkom also runs an SMS line on 30591 and a self-service portal at selfservice.telkom.co.za.

Telkom contract customer care WhatsApp number

Telkom’s WhatsApp line is 081 160 1700, published as a direct chat link on the Telkom home page rather than written out as a number.

That is part of a wider pattern. Telkom’s website has no contact page at all, and the addresses you might guess return error pages. The service charter is where the call centre numbers actually live, filed under regulatory terms and conditions.

Because the official numbers are buried, wrong ones circulate. Check anything you are given against this list before acting on it.

Telkom contract cancellation and complaints

Telkom publishes a defined complaints process, and skipping a step will get your email bounced back. Telkom undertakes to acknowledge a complaint within 48 hours by sending you a reference number, and to try to resolve it within 14 days.

If you are unhappy with the outcome, or 14 days pass, you escalate to Telkom’s Escalation Centre at NatCC@telkom.co.za. There is a condition attached: Telkom states that before contacting the Escalation Centre you must already have made contact through a store, a call centre, the website or the app, because the Escalation Centre requires a reference number to assist you. Emailing NatCC first, without a reference, does not start the clock.

What Telkom may not do during a billing dispute

If you are disputing a bill on a contract, Telkom’s charter commits it to two things that are worth quoting back if needed.

  • Your services will not be suspended while the disputed bill is being investigated
  • A disputed unpaid portion of any bill will not be handed to a collection agency, and will not be charged penalties or interest, until the complaint has been closed

Both depend on the dispute being properly logged, which is another reason to get that reference number and keep it. Telkom also undertakes to give postpaid customers a detailed itemised bill on request, and to notify customers of planned service interruptions by SMS or on its website seven days before and again a day before.

Rebates for lost service

Telkom states that you are entitled to a rebate if you have not received contracted services you have already paid for. The rebate is limited to the days of service lost, pro-rated against your subscription. It is not compensation for inconvenience, and on a contract it is worth asking for explicitly rather than waiting for it to appear.

A phishing warning from Telkom

Telkom has published a security notice about a phishing incident in which a Telkom employee’s account was compromised and phishing emails were sent from a genuine Telkom email address. The affected messages carried the subject lines “TELKOM GROUP” or “TELKOM SA”. Telkom says the incident was contained and that it has no evidence sensitive information was accessed, and asks anyone who received such an email not to open it or click any link.

The lesson holds generally. An email can come from a real Telkom address and still be hostile, so verify anything asking for payment or credentials on 081 180 before you act. Telkom gives popi@telkom.co.za for assistance with that incident. Telkom trades as Telkom SA SOC Limited and is an authorised financial services provider, FSP number 46037.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Telkom contract contact number?

081 180 covers all mobile service queries, including contract and postpaid accounts. Sales of new contracts are on 10213.

What is the Telkom contract customer care WhatsApp number?

081 160 1700. Telkom publishes it as a direct chat link on its home page rather than written out as a number.

What is the Telkom contract email address?

NatCC@telkom.co.za is the Escalation Centre mailbox, but only after a complaint already has a reference number from a store, call centre, the website or the app. Emailing it first does not start the clock.

How do I cancel a Telkom contract?

The page carries no cancellation process. Telkom’s charter routes contract matters through 081 180, and a cancellation request is best raised there or at a store so that it is logged with a reference number.

How do I escalate a Telkom complaint?

Raise it through a store, the call centre, the website or the app first and keep the reference number Telkom sends within 48 hours. If the outcome is unsatisfactory or 14 days pass, email the Escalation Centre at NatCC@telkom.co.za quoting that reference.
