South African Airways is the national carrier. It routes contact through a single Global Contact Centre plus a set of purpose-specific mailboxes. The details below were read from the SAA contact page on 31 August 2026.
Official contact channels
- South Africa and Africa: +27 11 978 1111
- United States: +1 870 617 8342, charged at local rate
- Canada: +1 902 612 2438
- Operating hours: 06h00 to 01h00 South Africa Standard Time, Monday to Sunday
Those hours are the useful detail: the contact centre runs 19 hours a day, seven days a week, closing only between 01h00 and 06h00. SAA publishes further regional numbers for the Middle East, Europe, the United Kingdom and Ireland, and the rest of the world, in collapsible sections on the same page.
What this organisation provides
SAA operates scheduled passenger flights domestically, regionally and internationally, along with a cargo operation and the Voyager loyalty programme. It publishes a mailbox for each function, and using the right one matters more than usual because they are handled by different departments:
- Customer service: [email protected]
- Reservations, Johannesburg: [email protected]
- Baggage services: [email protected]
- Voyager loyalty programme: [email protected]
- Cargo reservations: [email protected]
- Website problems: [email protected]
Before contacting SAA, have your booking reference, ticket number, flight number and travel date. Voyager queries need your membership number.
For delayed or missing baggage, obtain a Property Irregularity Report at the airport before leaving. A baggage claim generally cannot proceed without it, and it is far harder to obtain afterwards.
Address and operating information
The +27 11 number is a Johannesburg line, reflecting SAA base at OR Tambo International Airport. SAA does not publish a walk-in customer address on its contact page – airport ticket desks and the contact centre are the customer-facing routes.
Note the US and Canadian numbers are local-rate lines rather than South African ones, so passengers abroad should use the number for their region rather than dialling South Africa.
Support and escalation routes
Raise the matter with the contact centre or the mailbox matching your query, quoting the booking reference, and keep the reference you are given. Retain boarding passes, the Property Irregularity Report and receipts for anything you had to buy because of a delay – airline claims are decided on documents.
If SAA does not resolve it:
- Service, refunds and ticketing as a consumer: the National Consumer Commission, under the Consumer Protection Act
- Safety or licensing concerns: the South African Civil Aviation Authority
International carriage is additionally governed by the Montreal Convention, which sets liability limits and short time bars for baggage and delay claims. Lodge a baggage claim in writing within days rather than weeks, or the right may lapse regardless of the merits.
