There is one national number. Eagle Liner publishes no separate claims, lost property or complaints line, so 010 822 9000 covers everything that is not a booking.

Eagle Liner publishes no operating hours for the customer care line, so treat 010 822 9000 as a business-hours number and book in advance rather than relying on reaching someone late at night.

Eagle Liner WhatsApp number for bookings

079 786 9989 is labelled WhatsApp Booking on eagleliner.co.za, and Eagle Liner promotes booking a seat through it as one of its three booking channels, alongside the online system and walking into an office.

Use it to book. For a complaint, a refund or a question about a journey that has already happened, the telephone number or the customer care mailbox is the better route.

Eagle Liner email address and why it says Intercity

The Eagle Liner email address is customercare@intercity.co.za. The website is eagleliner.co.za but every email address on it ends in intercity.co.za. That is not a mistake and not an impostor.

Eagle Liner sits alongside Intercity Xpress Services, which its own site presents as the more luxurious option, and the group runs its mail on the Intercity domain. The conditions of carriage are issued jointly as “Intercity Xpress / Eagle Liner”, and under the FAQ loyalty rules BusBucks points may only be redeemed from Intercity Xpress offices.

It does mean you should expect a reply from an Intercity address. If you were watching for eagleliner.co.za in your inbox, check your spam folder for the other name.

How to book Eagle Liner bus tickets

Eagle Liner’s FAQ lists four ways to book a bus ticket:

  • The online portal at eagleliner.ratality.com.
  • The WhatsApp portal on 079 786 9989.
  • An Eagle Liner branch.
  • A third-party agent such as Computicket, Busbud or Flightsite.

Online bookings run through eagleliner.ratality.com, which is the reservation system rather than the main website. A booking link that sends you from eagleliner.co.za to a ratality.com address is therefore genuine.

To board, bring your ticket or ticket reference number and your ID book. Be at the departure point 30 to 45 minutes before departure, because unfilled seats are sold to standby passengers 10 minutes before the bus leaves. One 25kg suitcase and one piece of hand luggage travel free; after that luggage costs R5 per kg.

Eagle Liner bus ticket prices and times

Eagle Liner does not publish a fare table or timetable on eagleliner.co.za; prices and departure times are shown only in the booking system at eagleliner.ratality.com, and all fares are subject to change without notice. Its popular routes connect Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria, plus Bloemfontein, East London and Gqeberha, and a Cape Town to Upington route is marked as a new route. Newcastle is not named on the Eagle Liner pages we read, so check the booking system or call 010 822 9000 for a Johannesburg to Newcastle bus.

Eagle Liner coaches and buses

Eagle Liner describes its fleet as semi-luxury coaches with affordable prices on all its routes, and points to Intercity Xpress as its more luxurious option. The site does not list on-board facilities such as toilets, so ask customer care on 010 822 9000 before you book if that matters to you.

Ticket changes, cancellations and refunds

To change or cancel a booking, contact customer care on 010 822 9000 or one of the sales offices. Eagle Liner’s conditions of carriage set these rules:

  • More than 24 hours before departure: refund or reschedule, with an R50 admin fee. Refunds have a 21-day waiting period, excluding weekends.
  • Less than 24 hours before departure: no cash refund; you can reschedule with an R70 admin fee.
  • 3 to 1 hours before departure: R100 admin fee to reschedule.
  • Less than 1 hour before departure: no refund and no rescheduling.

For a refund on an office booking, bring the original ticket, a copy of the traveller’s ID and proof of banking details. For a third-party booking, bring proof of payment, an ID copy and the ticket or reference. The FAQ separately mentions a 20% rebooking or cancellation fee, 24 hours before departure, so confirm the fee with customer care when you call.

Late buses and the Eagle Liner bus tracker

Eagle Liner does not publish a live bus tracker. Its FAQ says you will receive a text message if your bus is late, or you can contact customer care on 010 822 9000 or your nearest office.

Eagle Liner booking offices: addresses and emails, no phone numbers

Eagle Liner lists twenty booking offices across six provinces. Each one is published with a street address and an email address, and not one of them has a telephone number.

So if you are looking for the number of a specific Eagle Liner office, there is not one to find. Email that office directly, or phone 010 822 9000 and say which office you mean.

BusBucks rewards

BusBucks is Eagle Liner’s rewards programme, at busbucks.co.za. The operator says points are earned on every trip booked directly, online or at any Eagle Liner office, and that points convert to rand value and can be redeemed against future tickets, seat upgrades and other items.

Note the words booked directly. Points are described as earned on direct bookings, so a ticket bought through a third party may not count.

Before you get in touch

Have your booking reference, the travel date and the route. On a long-distance coach service the route and date identify a trip faster than a name.

Confirm your departure point before travel day. Eagle Liner’s own advice tells passengers to double-check exactly where the journey begins, and several towns in the list above have more than one pick-up point.

Carry your ticket and your identity document. The operator lists both as things to have ready.
