Verified 24 September 2026Updated 5 October 2026Official source onlyIndependent directoryPublished by Silas T Nkoana, Cape TownReport a wrong number

Standard Bank’s own vehicle finance page tells you to “call us on 0860 000 000“. That is a placeholder, not a working number. The real routes for a VAF account are personalbankinghomencar@standardbank.co.za and personal banking on 0860 123 000. We confirmed this on standardbank.co.za on 24 September 2026.

The number on the page is not real

On Standard Bank’s Managing your car page, under “Didn’t find what you’re looking for?”, the site prints Call us 0860 000 000. The link behind it dials 0860000000.

Six zeros after the 0860 prefix is the shape of an unfilled template field, not an allocated share-call number. It appears to have been left in when the page was built.

So if you found that number and it went nowhere, the fault is not yours. Use 0860 123 000 for personal banking, or the email address on the same page, which is real.

The mailbox that does work

personalbankinghomencar@standardbank.co.za is published on the same page and covers home loans and car finance together, which is what “homencar” stands for.

It is the better route for anything involving a document, because most VAF requests end in one being sent to you: a settlement quote, a paid-up letter, a statement, an amortisation schedule or a NaTIS document. Asking in writing gives you a record and a reference.

Include your VAF account number and your identity number in the first email, or the reply will simply ask for them.

There is no separate VAF login

People who want a VAF login expect a dedicated vehicle finance portal. Standard Bank does not run one for personal customers.

Your vehicle finance account appears inside ordinary internet banking and the Standard Bank app, alongside your other accounts. Sign in the same way you would to check a current account.

The separate login portals Standard Bank does publish are for other purposes: online business banking, the merchant portal, and a fleet management portal for fleet customers. None of these is where a personal car finance account lives.

Sign in from standardbank.co.za or the app, never from a link in an email or a text message.

What the VAF desk handles

Standard Bank’s own vehicle FAQ shows what this desk deals with, which is a useful guide to whether you are in the right place.

  • Payments: paying extra into a VAF account, cancelling a debit order to pay manually, and changing a debit order date or the bank details behind it.
  • Settlements: requesting a settlement quote and what happens next, and receiving a paid-up letter once the loan is settled.
  • Documents: statements on a VAF account, and amortisation schedules.
  • NaTIS: replacing a lost or misplaced original registration document, and whether change of ownership can be done when requesting it.
  • Balloon payments and residual values, and cross-border travel.

Two of these are worth planning ahead for. A cross-border letter is needed before you drive a financed vehicle out of South Africa, because the bank still owns it, and it is not issued at the border. And the NaTIS document is held by the bank until the loan is paid, so the paid-up letter and the NaTIS are separate requests.

If you are struggling with the instalment

Do not use the general line. Standard Bank’s Debt Care Centre, on 0860 111 400, is the desk for repayment difficulty, and it offers term extensions, re-spreading of arrears and payment holidays.

Call it before you miss a payment. A financed vehicle can be repossessed, and the options narrow once arrears build up.

Before you call

Have your VAF account number, your identity number, and the vehicle registration.

For a settlement, ask for the quote in writing and note the date it expires. Settlement figures are valid only to a stated date, and paying an expired figure leaves a balance behind.

For a debit order change, allow time before the next collection date rather than calling the day before.

Standard Bank publishes no operating hours for these lines, so treat them as weekday business hours.
