Standard Bank does not publish a separate WhatsApp number or email address for vehicle finance. Several FAQ answers on the vehicle management page show “0860 000 000”, which does not match any other Standard Bank listing, so we have not used it. Call 0860 123 002 or 0860 123 000 instead.

Standard Bank’s head office is at 5 Simmonds Street, Selby, Johannesburg, 2001. Its general consultant lines run from 08:00 to 22:00 every day of the week, but no separate opening hours are given for the VAF desk. You can collect original NaTIS documents and paid-up letters from the VAF office at 33 Baker, Rosebank, 2196, or ask for delivery by giving an address and a contact person.

Product or service support

Things you can sort out on an existing account:

  • Settlement: request it in the Banking App or Online Banking and the letter comes by email, showing the amount and where to pay it.
  • Paid-up letter: once the account is settled in full, call or email. Accounts with a legal, insurance or deceased status must get it from those departments.
  • Cross-border letter: needed for every trip outside South Africa. Send your ID, an insurance letter no older than seven days showing travel dates and destination, and the vehicle details, plus ID and licence copies for any extra drivers.
  • Debit order changes: monthly debit orders are compulsory, so you cannot switch to manual payments. To change the date or bank account, call or email with a bank account confirmation letter.
  • Amortisation schedule: sent only to the email address on file, and it can take up to 48 hours.

If your car is stolen or written off, claim from your insurer, not the bank. The insurer notifies Standard Bank, which issues a settlement valid for 45 days. If the payout leaves a shortfall, the bank will contact you.

Eligibility, account or policy requirements

Standard Bank finances new and used vehicles over 12 to 84 months, and ownership passes to you after the final instalment. You can apply in the Banking App (Explore, then Loans, then Vehicle, then Apply Now), online, or at a branch. The bank asks for your ID, a valid South African driver’s licence, three months of payslips or bank statements, and proof of residence no older than three months. Applicants must be 18 or older, and approval depends on credit checks and FICA.

If your deal is less than 30 days old, the dealer may have to supply copies of your documents. A change of ownership after payout costs R385 according to the documents section. The FAQ gives R380 instead, and quotes R700 for a duplicate NaTIS plus R180 for delivery. For lost documents, get a report 164 from the licensing department and email it to the VAF mailbox.

Escalation route

  1. Raise the problem on 0860 123 002 or by email to personalbankinghomencar@standardbank.co.za, quoting your VAF account number.
  2. If it is not fixed, take it to Standard Bank’s complaints team on 0860 101 101 or complaint.resolutioncentre@standardbank.co.za. You should get a reference number and a case manager within 24 hours.
  3. If you disagree with the outcome, email the reference number to ComplaintsEscalations@standardbank.co.za.
  4. If you are still unhappy, the National Financial Ombud Scheme handles credit and banking disputes free of charge: 0860 800 900, info@nfosa.co.za. Standard Bank warns that ombuds usually expect a complaint within four to six months of the bank’s final answer.

If you cannot keep up with instalments, contact the Debt Care Centre before the account falls into arrears. Standard Bank’s EasySell service can also help you sell the vehicle and settle the finance.
