The bank’s own instruction is to request the settlement through the app or Online Banking first, because the quote is emailed to you automatically. The telephone number and the mailbox are the fallback, not the main route.
How to get a Standard Bank vehicle settlement figure
- In the Banking App or on your Online Banking profile, request the settlement. It is delivered by email.
- Or email personalbankinghomencar@standardbank.co.za.
- Or call 0860 123 000.
Documents are only sent to the email address the bank has on file for the account, so if yours has changed, fix that before you request anything.
Transaction history works the same way. Up to 90 days of payments, fees and interest adjustments are visible in the app and in Online Banking, and 0860 123 000 is the number for statements beyond that.
A stolen or written-off vehicle is settled differently
Do not request an ordinary settlement quote. Lodge the claim with your insurer, and the insurer notifies the bank and handles the settlement request from there.
The bank then issues a settlement to the insurer, valid for 45 days. Once the insurer pays, the bank finalises the account, and where a shortfall remains it contacts you about it.
After the settlement: NaTIS and paid-up letters
Change of ownership once the deal is paid up goes to the same mailbox, personalbankinghomencar@standardbank.co.za, with a valid licence disc, a copy of your ID and proof of residence no older than three months.
Standard Bank charges R385 for that, payable to account name VAF Access Finance, account number 401597008, branch IBT 5053, using your licence plate number as the reference.
Paid-up letters have to be requested together with the NaTIS documents, on 0860 123 000 or by email. For lost documents, get a report 164 from the licensing department and forward it to the same address, and the bank replies with the next steps.
You can collect the documents at 33 Baker Street, Rosebank, 2196, or arrange delivery, for which the bank wants a delivery address, a contact person and contact numbers. If the deal is under 30 days old, the dealer may still hold the copy.
Cross-border letters and balloon payments
A cross-border letter is needed every time the financed vehicle leaves South Africa, and is requested through the app, Online Banking, the mailbox or 0860 123 000.
You will need your ID, an insurance letter no older than seven days showing your travel dates and destination, and the vehicle details. Additional drivers need a copy of their ID and driver’s licence too.
A balloon payment or residual value coming due at the end of the term is handled on the same number and mailbox, where the bank will discuss restructuring the payment rather than settling it in one amount.
Before you call
Have the account number for the vehicle finance agreement, not your cheque account number, and your ID number. The two are held on different systems and the agent searches on the finance account.
Know the date you intend to settle on. A settlement quote is valid to a stated date, and interest keeps running, so a quote pulled a fortnight early will not match what the bank accepts on the day.
If someone else is paying the settlement, a dealer taking the car in on trade or a new financier, they usually want the quote sent to them directly. The bank will only send it to the address on file, so expect to forward it yourself.
Banking consultants are available Monday to Sunday between 08:00 and 22:00, which the bank states on its contact page. The mailbox has no published response time, so the telephone is the faster route if the settlement is due this week.
A placeholder number on the bank’s own page
At the foot of the vehicle management page, under “Didn’t find what you’re looking for?”, Standard Bank prints “Call us 0860 000 000”. That is a template placeholder, not a working line. The number to use is 0860 123 000, which the same page gives six times above it.
