MIBCO does not publish a general email address or separate departmental numbers on its main contact route. Its website was returning server errors intermittently when checked, so the published number is the reliable route.
What this organisation provides
MIBCO publishes one national share-call number rather than departmental lines, so state at the outset whether the query concerns a fund benefit, a dispute or employer compliance — the three go to different parts of the council.
A bargaining council is established under the Labour Relations Act by employers’ organisations and trade unions in a sector. MIBCO covers the motor industry, and its functions include administering the main agreement for the sector, collecting contributions to its funds, and resolving disputes between employers and employees in the industry.
The most common reasons people contact MIBCO are provident fund and sick benefit queries, disputes about wages or conditions covered by the main agreement, and employer registration or compliance matters.
MIBCO is not a government department and not a union. It sits between the parties in the industry, which means it can adjudicate a dispute within its scope but cannot act as anyone’s representative.
Address and operating information
MIBCO administers funds on behalf of the industry, including provident and sick benefit arrangements, and collects contributions from registered employers. Those funds are the subject of most member enquiries, and the records are held centrally rather than by the employer.
MIBCO operates regional offices in addition to its national administration, and matters are frequently handled regionally. It does not publish national contact centre operating hours on its main page.
Provident fund records are held against your industry membership rather than against a particular employer, which is why a fund query can usually be answered even where the employer has closed.
Support and escalation routes
Contributions are deducted by the employer and paid over to the council, so a gap in your record often reflects an employer that did not remit rather than an error by the fund. Bring payslips for the period in question, since they evidence the deduction.
Have your identity number, your employer’s name and MIBCO registration details, and the period in question. For a fund query, the membership number is what identifies the record.
Where a dispute concerns unpaid wages or conditions of employment in the motor industry, MIBCO’s dispute resolution function is the route. Where the matter falls outside the motor industry or outside the main agreement, the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration is the general forum instead.
The Department of Employment and Labour is the responsible department for labour matters generally, and the Registrar of Labour Relations oversees bargaining councils.
