SARS does not publish a telephone number for any branch, including Johannesburg. Its branch finder gives physical addresses and nothing else. Every call goes through one national contact centre, and a branch visit has to be booked in advance.

A number presented as a direct line to a SARS branch is not one SARS publishes. Treat any such number with suspicion, particularly if it arrives by SMS or email, because SARS impersonation is common.

- The Johannesburg city branch is the Newtown JHB Branch: Shop 137, Level 1, 100 Carr Street, Newtown Junction Mall, Johannesburg.
- Branch hours: weekdays 08:00 to 16:00, and 09:00 to 16:00 on Wednesdays.
- Other branches across the Johannesburg area: Randburg at 25 Hill Street; Roodepoort at Horizon View Shopping Centre, corner Sonop and Ontdekkers Road; Soweto (Orlando East) at corner Dynamo Drive and Chris Hani Road; Alberton, Boksburg, Edenvale, Krugersdorp, Randfontein and Springs.
Services at this location
- Book before you go. SARS asks that you make an appointment through its online appointment system or the SARS MobiApp rather than arriving unannounced. You are contacted after requesting the booking to be told the next step.
- A virtual branch appointment by video or teleconference is offered as an alternative to attending in person, and is booked the same way.
- Most transactions do not need a branch at all. SARS lists eFiling, the Mobile App, email, WhatsApp, USSD and SMS as its service channels, plus the SARS Online Query System.
- The Wednesday late start applies to branches and the contact centre alike, so Wednesday mornings before 09:00 are dead time for both.
