Meerkat funeral cover is sold and administered by MyMeerkat FSP (Pty) Ltd, an authorised financial services provider under licence number 50979, and the policy itself is insured by a separate company.

Official provider route

Product or service support

Policy changes, queries and claims go to [email protected] or [email protected]. General enquiries go to [email protected]. The office is at 203 Pine Park, Pinelands, Cape Town 7405, and Meerkat invites people to call in there.

Eligibility, account or policy requirements

Applicants must be South African residents aged between 18 and 60. Cover runs up to R60,000 and starts from R45 a month, with no medical tests required. A policy can extend to a spouse, children, stepchildren, parents, nieces and nephews and other extended family. Missing a premium gives a one month grace period, after which the policy lapses, so contact the administrator before that period runs out rather than after.

Escalation route

The policy is insured by Old Mutual Alternative Risk Transfer Limited, trading as OMART Life, while Meerkat handles administration and claims. A complaint therefore starts with MyMeerkat as the administrator and can move to the underwriter. Complaints that stay unresolved go to the National Financial Ombud Scheme, which handles long term insurance disputes in South Africa, and the Financial Sector Conduct Authority regulates the licensed provider.
