Absa publishes no dedicated contact for repossessed houses, and the search results for this topic are dominated by third party listing and lead generation sites that are not Absa. What Absa does publish is more useful if the property at risk is your own: a manage my debt line, separate from the home loan line.

Product or service support
A repossessed or in possession property is one where a home loan agreement ended in default and the bank took the property, usually after a sheriff sale. Absa does not run a published contact desk for buyers of these properties, and the sites that rank for the term are mostly independent listing services and estate agencies rather than the bank. If you are buying, treat every listing as unverified until the bank or the appointed attorney confirms it, and never pay a deposit or a finder fee into an account given to you by an intermediary you found through a listing site.
Eligibility, account or policy requirements
If it is your own home at risk, act early and use the manage my debt number rather than waiting for legal papers, because the options narrow at each stage. Before judgment you may be able to arrange a payment plan, apply for debt review under the National Credit Act, or sell the property yourself, and a voluntary sale usually realises more than a sheriff auction, which reduces or removes the shortfall you would still owe afterwards. Have your home loan account number, your identity number and a realistic income and expenses picture ready, because that is what any arrangement will be assessed on. Remember that a shortfall after a sale in execution remains your debt, which is the reason acting early matters.
Escalation route
If Absa does not resolve a complaint about the home loan or the way the account was handled, use the Complaint Resolution Suite and get a reference. A home loan is a credit agreement, so a complaint about the agreement, the debt review process or reckless lending goes to the National Credit Regulator on 0860 627 627, which is also where you verify that a debt counsellor is registered before paying one. A complaint about the bank conduct or its handling of your account goes to the National Financial Ombud on 0860 800 900 once the bank process is exhausted. If you are facing legal proceedings, a court may not order the sale of a primary residence without judicial oversight, so get legal advice rather than ignoring papers, and Legal Aid South Africa is available on 0800 110 110 for those who qualify.
