Absa Rewards has its own consultant line and mailbox, separate from general Absa banking enquiries. That matters because what you earn depends on your Rewards Tier, which a rewards consultant can explain but a general banking agent usually cannot.

Absa Rewards pays real cash back rather than points. Absa states that members can earn up to 30 percent cash back when using an Absa card in store or online at Rewards Partners, with groceries at Woolworths, Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Checkers and Food Lovers Market, fuel and shop purchases at Sasol and Shell, and digital lifestyle spend including Netflix, PlayStation and Google Play vouchers. Travel booked through the Absa Banking App carries upfront travel discounts of up to 100 percent. Additional benefits include Absa Advantage meal vouchers for completing challenges, 50 percent off Nu Metro movies, and extra cash back on Small Business Friday when shopping at participating Absa small businesses.
Eligibility, account or policy requirements
Joining is free and is done through the Absa Banking App rather than by phone. The percentages above are ceilings, not defaults: Absa states that the up to 30 percent cash back and the up to 100 percent travel discount both depend on your Rewards Tier, and the travel discount also depends on which Absa card you hold. The rewards calculator on the Absa site estimates earnings at the top tier, Tier 5, so treat its output as a best case rather than what you will receive. Ask the rewards line which tier you are on before assuming a rate.
Escalation route
Query a missing or incorrect cash back with the Absa Rewards line or mailbox first, quoting the transaction date, the partner and the card used, because cash back is matched to the card transaction. If that does not resolve it, Absa runs a Complaint Resolution Suite on 0800 41 41 41 with an actionline mailbox. A complaint that Absa does not resolve can be taken to the National Financial Ombud on 0860 800 900. Note that a rewards dispute is not a credit matter, so the National Credit Regulator is not the right body unless the underlying account is a credit agreement.
