I forgot my Absa Online user number
To log in to Absa Online you enter your access account number, your 5-digit online PIN and your user number. Absa’s help guide says the user number field defaults to 1, the main user. Other users given access to the account enter the user number allocated to them. If you are unsure which number is yours, call Absa’s online banking line on 08600 08600, option 4.
Resetting your Absa Online password
- Click Log in at the top right of absa.co.za and enter your access account number, PIN, user number and the code shown.
- Click Forgot password. A verification request goes to your Absa Banking App.
- Accept it. On the facial biometrics route, tap Scan my face and scan your face.
- Enter and confirm your new password, following the password rules.
If you forgot your 5-digit PIN instead, click Forgot PIN on the log in page. Enter your access account number, user number and the code, accept the verification request, enter the missing characters of your password, then your ATM card number and PIN, and create a new PIN. If the reset cannot be completed after hours because your profile is blocked, call 08600 08600, option 4.
Absa Online error messages
- “Invalid credentials” or a hold on your profile: Absa says to call the Fraud Hotline on 0860 557 557 or the Contact Centre on 08600 08600, option 4.
- “Unpaid suspended”: your online banking fees could not be collected, either because of insufficient funds or because the nominated cost account is a non-transactional account such as Tru-Save or Moneybuilder. Call 08600 08600, option 4, or visit a branch to settle the fees and reactivate the service.
- No verification messages: in the app, go to Menu, then Devices, and make sure this is your verification device. Enable push notifications under App Settings, and try mobile data instead of open WiFi.
Absa bank online chat: Abby
Abby is Absa’s AI virtual assistant, answering banking questions in the Banking App 24/7. Tap the Abby icon in the top right corner of the app home screen to start a chat. Abby gives step-by-step help with eStatements, CashSend, beneficiaries, prepaid purchases, stopping or replacing cards, managing devices, tax certificates, stamped statements and bank confirmation letters. You need an iOS or Android smartphone with the registered Banking App.
Banking online if you don’t have an Absa account
Absa ChatWallet is a digital wallet inside WhatsApp. Its FAQs say you do not need to be an Absa customer, or have any bank account, to use it. You need to be 18 or older, with a valid South African ID number and a RICA’d cellphone number linked to WhatsApp. Save 086 000 2428, send “Hi” and follow the prompts; Absa verifies you with a selfie checked against Home Affairs. With ChatWallet you can receive money, pay by cellphone number or bank details, buy electricity, airtime and data, and withdraw cash.
