Absa Overdraft Contact Details

Verified 16 September 2026Official source onlyIndependent directoryReport a wrong number

Absa handles personal overdrafts on 0860 100 372, the number printed on its Overdraft page and under Overdraft in its Talk to us directory, where the listed email is absa@absa.co.za. An overdraft on a business account is a different desk: Absa’s short and medium-term business lending line, 0860 040 302. We checked both on absa.co.za on 16 September 2026, along with the overdraft application steps and loan comparison pages.

ContactDetails.co.za is an independent directory, separate from Absa. We cannot apply for, increase or cancel an overdraft on your behalf.

Absa does not publish a named overdraft department, a dedicated overdraft mailbox or opening hours for 0860 100 372. The same number also serves personal loans, so say at the start of the call that your query is about an overdraft on a cheque account.

Branches take overdraft applications in person; use Find a branch on absa.co.za. Absa Bank Limited’s head office is at Absa Towers West, 15 Troye Street, Johannesburg, and the bank is registered as a credit provider under NCRCP7.

Product or service support

An Absa overdraft is a credit limit attached to a cheque account. Absa describes it as a short-term, revolving form of credit: you can spend or withdraw cash below a zero balance up to the approved limit, you pay interest only on the amount used, and there is no fixed repayment schedule, although deposits are expected to bring the balance down.

Existing Absa customers can apply without phoning. Absa’s overdraft page gives these routes:

  • Absa Online: log in, choose Offers on the side menu, then Transactional solutions, click the plus sign next to Overdraft facility and continue to the secure application site.
  • Absa Banking App: log in, tap Offers, select the Overdraft tile and follow the prompts.
  • Not yet an Absa customer: apply for a Gold Value Bundle or a Premium Banking account with an overdraft, visit a branch or call 0860 100 372.

If an overdraft has become a permanent debt, Absa’s own debt advice suggests asking for a lower overdraft limit so that spending stays within your budget, and calling 0861 222 272 to negotiate an affordable repayment plan before the account falls behind.

Eligibility, account or policy requirements

The interest rate is set according to your risk profile. Absa’s comparison page gives limits from R501 to R250 000 and says the facility is reviewed every year; its Explore page shows the lower figure as R500.

To qualify you must be 18 or older, earn at least R7 000 a month and have that income paid into a cheque account. Bring a valid South African ID or smart ID card, proof of address no older than three months, and your latest payslips or three months of bank statements. Credit protection is optional on an overdraft, unlike Absa’s personal loans, and settles the balance on death, permanent disability, dread disease or loss of income.

Escalation route

  1. Raise overdraft questions on 0860 100 372, or at your branch, and ask for a reference.
  2. If you disagree with the answer, lodge a complaint with Absa’s Complaint Resolution Suite on 0800 41 41 41 or actionline@absa.co.za; it is open weekdays from 08:00 to 16:30.
  3. When Absa’s process has run its course without a fix, the National Financial Ombud Scheme takes free complaints about overdrafts and other bank credit on 0860 800 900 or info@nfosa.co.za.
