There is no Mpumalanga licence department. Driving licence testing centres and vehicle registering authorities in Mpumalanga are run by the municipalities, town by town, and the province publishes no single licensing number. That is why searching for one comes up empty.
Where to actually go
- Your local municipality runs the licensing counter. Ask the municipal switchboard for the driving licence testing centre or the registering authority, and confirm which services that office actually offers
- Not every office does everything. Some do vehicle licence renewals only, some do learner and driving licence tests, and some do both
- National NaTIS online service support: 0861 762 847. This is the line for the online licence system rather than for a local booking
- Renewals and bookings can be started online through the national NaTIS service, which saves a queue but does not replace the in-person test or eye test
A caution about numbers you may find
- The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison publishes a page headed Contact Numbers in Mpumalanga listing 27 towns against 27 telephone numbers
- That list carries no label saying what the numbers are. They may be police stations, traffic offices or municipal switchboards, and nothing on the page says which
- For that reason none of them are reproduced here. An unlabelled number sends people to whoever happens to answer it
- The towns on that list include Badplaas, Belfast, Blinkpan, Carolina, Dennilton, Dullstroom, Groblersdal, Hendrina, KwaMhlanga, Machadodorp, Marble Hall, Middelburg, Ogies, Siyabuswa and Witbank, so the province does hold contact data for those areas even if it is not clearly described
Do not pay for what is free
- The Road Traffic Management Corporation states plainly on its own site that the application for a driving licence confirmation letter is free to the public and that it does not charge administration fees for it
- Nobody can lawfully sell you a licence, a test pass or a queue position. Agents offering to arrange any of those are selling a crime, and the licence they produce is worthless
- Pay official fees at the office counter and take the receipt. Never pay a fixer in the parking area
- If a testing centre asks for cash without a receipt, that is a corruption matter, not a service matter
Complaints and escalation
- A service complaint about a licensing office starts with the municipal manager of that municipality, in writing, with a reference number
- Corruption at a testing centre goes to the National Anti-Corruption Hotline on 0800 701 701
